Hey Guys,

I am from Iowa and have been running with minimalist shoes for about two years now. This year I decided it was time to get serious about getting in shape and started C25k with my dog. Today I signed up for the Color Run 5k to test out how everything is progressing. That's about it! So Hello

Welcome Mr Bush!
Are you in Des Moines? I live in Iowa City.
Stick around.

Yes I am in Des Moines right downtown. It makes running any long distance meaning going in a lot of circles. Not to mention running/walking with VFFs or Zem Gear around a bunch of suits makes for a fun time.[/quote]
As long as you enjoy it who cares-right?
I've never done the color run but I hear that it's a lot of fun but I have done the Des Moines Marathon twice and that was lot of fun too!

I was going to do the Dam to Dam 5k but I heard that one is taken overly seriously. Instead I opted for the color run since it is a fun run and we will see from there.

sounds like a good plan, when is it?

I used to run in downtown Atlanta - I know what you mean about lots of circles and people dressed way too seriously. Not my preference, but sometimes you have to work with the materials you have on hand.

Yeah when I worked downtown I would walk to work with some sorta weird footwear and everyone acts way too seriously about even the little things

Welcome. I know what you mean about the downtown atmosphere. Though I live out in rural farmland, I work in downtown Columbus OH. Even on casual Friday wearing jeans n sneakers, I feel like those still in suits are giving me the eye. I've recently started walking and or running on my lunch break (sometimes barefoot) and I just love going past the suits in my bare feet! I don't go by many though, I have quick access to park trails were I can do a 3 1/2mi loop without having to cross any roads. And very few suit wearers on the trail.

I wish I had immediate trail access especially since I am hoping to run a 20k sometime next year.

Welcome! :joyful:

Surely there is a trail you could commute to once a week or so for a long run? It's really nice being able to go for a run right out the door but I also enjoy traveling to a nice long trail for a long run on some weekends.

Starting the 13th I will be moving to a Monday thru Friday schedule so I will be able to run around the lake downtown easier.
