Three Creeks 10K

Three Creeks 10K

That's Amber and myself; she ran 55:45 for her second (and fastest) 10k, and placed first in her age group. I have not been able to bring her to the darkside, even though her wiener dog tried to help by destroying her new running shoes the night before the race (the ones there are actually pretty old)!

I was sporting my old BRS shirt, lots of comments on this race, all pretty positive!

Once again it was nearly too cold to run barefoot. Was around 37F for the race. I can go mid 30's is about all, and for a race when I know I'm going to be a little distracted and not concentrating as much on form I don't like to be so close to going numb. But I decided to go for it. At first they were a bit cold, but warmed up fine after about a mile. Not sure if that had anything to do with the extra wear on my soles (below).

My photobucket account is on the fritz, not sure if its them or this laptop but I'm just going to attach the others below...

My first plaque! One advantage of a small race.

Myself an Amber on the stats. Those two guys ahead of me were in a different league!

And finally the carnage, the day after. I did an easy 3 miles today just to stretch the legs back out. Feet are pretty sensitive. It looks worse than it is, I was just in the spa here at the hotel for about 10 minutes and the worn areas turned really white. But it made it stand out enough to show up well in a pic so I took one. The skin is pretty thin there, around it you can feel it gets much thicker. Also got a little blister in the middle of the old blister I had on the toe... might be pushing off or something, will have to really try and pay attention to my form going forward. Little spot on my heel too, I don't have that on the other foot, but the forefoot pads are pretty identical between my two feet.

great time!
I also think when you push the pace the wear is slightly different.
My soles were solid last year and I ran a half and got similar wear.
Competing is a different ball game.
You don't train at those speeds do you?

How did TJ find this one (or whoever put it here)... I even hid it in the pic section this time instead of race reports! :D
Its no problem though but doesnt she know I am shy? lol.

Thanks all, it was a fun time for sure! I've finally got my friend out of the 5k rut (she's never run a longer race other than the occasional 4 miler or something like that), I think she is really enjoying the 10ks now too. We had both signed up for a half marathon next week but she has to back out of it due to the bakers cyst I mentioned in another thread. As for me I think 10k is my favorite racing distance right now, a nice mix of speed and a distance. With my race pace and worse form I can still manage getting through 10k. I do hope I can shift that to the half marathon level at least, but thats a long way for me still! We'll see next weekend!

Nice time!

Fun was had?

Yep! Sorry that wasnt meant to be a full report originally, just a few pics. :snaphappy: So I might have left out a lot.

No, I'll leave that to DNEchris! But I had been trying to push the pace lately with my long runs in the 8's. I dont really follow any particular training, but I had been trying to work some fast pace days in here or there, but usually only ends up being a couple a month. I'll do half miles at around 7mm with 1/4 or 1/2 mile slow pace in between to recover. Maybe 4 or 5x so really only 2 miles or so at that kind of pace, with breaks in between. And after next weekends race I think I am going to shift to maff runs and focus on distance for most the summer to hopefully complete my first marathon (October). Although in September there is a 5k in my home town here that I've set a goal of finally breaking 20 minutes at, so I might start introducing faster paces towards the end of summer.
Yeah I know my feet hit the ground harder when I am racing, not sure if its just the pace being faster or mental or what.

Great time Tristan! And you're looking very dapper. It's a good barefoot look.
Thank Bare Lee! I am terrible when it comes to pics, my friend too. Thats like the first pic we have ever had together that one or both of us doesnt look silly I think! o_O

Tristan, I notice that you finished right behind the first woman...

Well I couldnt be rude! ;)

Great work. Nice to see some feet that look like mine from time to time :) Took me a while to figure out the pace numbers then realised it was metric race with imperial mile pace???
They are all like that here, pace is always minutes per mile. Many races are labeled in miles as well, but 5k, 10k, 50k, 100k, are all popular race distances and are round numbers so easier to label the race as 10k instead of 6.2 miles. We have to do everything the hard and/or confusing way I guess.
