Yeah, that whole "asking for permission thing" again.
I didn't ASK the race director of The Burns Park Run in Ann Arbor MI if the runners representing the Michigan chapter of the BRS could run barefoot, I TOLD him that WE have selected their race as the official IBRD Michigan event. So their response was to add that info to their website!
I'll never ask for barefoot permission since it is rarely granted that way.
I did ask once last year, a week before the Woodward Cruise in Shoes 5K. I asked on their FB site just to be funny and give them a heads-up knowing they couldn't possibly deny the barefoot option, which they didn't. BUT......just one month later in the exact same city (Royal Oak MI) Diane and I WERE denied the right to walk barefoot on city streets after the art, food, and music festival associated 5K was over! Won that fight but only for me, still working on blanket barefoot approval for the A,B,&E Labor Day event this year.

So, how would you know if you had to ask for "permission" when signing up for an event (not that I ever would). I've personnally never seen a "Barefoot not Authorized without Express Permission" post on any events I've looked at, or run...have any of you?

In the uk you can't run triathlons barefoot. Really bizarre given you HAVE to be barefoot from swim to bike!

I think we can build a case for DQing everyone in tri history. Let's do it. As long as we can outrun the wrath of Dave Scott. We'll be ok...

Oh. Forget I said anything.

;-)

Ironman prohibits bare feet in the run. Wonder how long it'll be before some tri comittee requires watershoes for the swim!

For Ironman rules I think the way the rule is written it doesn't specify that the shoes have to be on your feet...you can carry them in your hands and if your confronted about it you just have to say they are hurting your your feet and all will be ok. I don't think it would be too big an issue unless there was some way you could win the race and draw attention and embarrass the shoe company race sponsors.

USTA rules for shorter triathlon races don't really say...I've tried to pin down several race directors and none could ever give me any actual policy...its basically up to the local race director so I just stopped asking after a while and no one seems to care really.

I understand Canada doesn't allow barefoot runners in their triathlons. It's the same for probably most triathlons in the US. I think it's a BS rule.

I say, "Just Do It!" Oh wait, that's Nike. :wtf:

"Don't Ask; Don't Tell." Oh wait, that's Clinton. :meh:

Okay, we need our own motto here. What can you come up with? :barefoot:

A couple times when I've asked race directors about running barefoot they gave me funny answers saying I had to wear a shirt with no mention of shoes...the no shoes was a "does not compute" to them.
