I just want to put in a plug for a race that Bubba Hotep and I did last year and LOVED. I can't wait to be back this year.
El Scorcho 25k and 50k: http://www.elscorchorun.com/

It is a race in Fort Worth in July, but registration is February 25th at 9 AM. Last year it sold out in 5 days and I am betting it will quicker this year. It is really unique and worth checking out.

I plan on signing up in hopes I will be out of the boot.

I'm coming down from Massachusetts for it!

No, not just for that... my parents live in Plano and we visit them every other summer.

Wanna hear something funny? Everyone is always asking my parents, "Oh my! How do those Northerners handle the Texas heat!" Truth is, we don't have air conditioning up here, and the places that do will only set it to 78 or 82. My family ends up WAY better acclimatized to heat than the locals! It's pretty hilarious to watch. My kids will be running around in the 102 degree weather while all the Plano kids whine.

Yeah, but Plano kids... uh... well I hate to say something like not real Texas... but Plano is not. The kids in the hill country are out in the heat and beg to get out there. I never remember having a problem with it.

I will be there for sure, running or not. If I am not running by then I'll just get drunk and crew Rob.

I agree with you there. We call Plano "The Hive". I live in New England and I've never been so cold as when I visit Plano in the summer - and have to sit in all that frigid air conditioning after sweating in the car.

But... it IS real Texas. There's an enormous population living in The Hive.

I love the people, there, though. SO friendly. I crashed a Plano Pacer group run, once, and everyone whom I just met offered to take me the next day on a car trip to White Rock Lake! Like, everybody offered me a ride. Just met me.

He did not...

Well, shucks. Just you and me then! I'm really looking forward to this!

I typically visit the 'rents in July, and honestly, I really enjoy running in Dallas in July. I love the white pavement everywhere! It stays soooo much cooler than the black stuff in Massachusetts. I'd go out early, of course, when it was still in the 90s. Even still, much less humid than MA, and very comfortable. I know I'd get bored with them eventually, but my parents live near the Chisolm Trail, and there are these paved paths for biking and running.... no dodging cars on narrow roads or playing TJ Hooker on the trunk of cars pulling out of driveways. I cannot tell you how often I've done that - it's embarrassing.

You could crew and then pace me for the 2nd 25k when the course is emptier? Instead of signing up for a million small races in between like usual, this is the only one for me between now and then. I plan on getting healthy and getting right. Hopefully I will be hitting the road quickly.
