LET THE CONTEST BEGIN!

Working with award-winning filmmakers and musicians, Michael Sandler and Jessica Lee have produced a barefoot running movie that will even get the most die-hard shoe enthusiast out of their shoes and in touch with the earth. Part documentary and part how-to, this uplifting and educational movie is filled with some of the most gorgeous barefoot running shots and energizing music out there.
This project has been over two years in the making. It began when they first published their bestseller Barefoot Running: How to Run Light and Free by Getting in Touch with the Earth. On book tour, people kept asking, "Can you please make a DVD?"
So they began working on a how-to video. After working on it for a year and the movie near-completion, they took a step back and realized it was missing something, the “heart” or “essence” as Jessica would later describe it. It was good, but cut and dry, missing the passion and inspiration that has us stripping off our shoes and running bare in the first place. So they did the heart wrenching unthinkable and scrapped it, with thousands of dollars and hundreds of man-hours down the tubes. Next they hired a new director and European film crew and set sail for Maui, one of the most beautiful places on earth to find the heart and soul of the movie.
Under the guidance of their new director, Adam Brix, they completely changed the style of the film. Brix's vision was to invite people into Michael and Jessica’s world, by giving the film a documentary-feel. In this way, they captured the entire experience of barefoot running, not just the how-to. It became more of a Do-as-I-show, rather than a mere Do-as-I-say video and helps people connect first hand with the experience. In essence, they put the heart, soul and passion back into Barefoot Running, which is ultimately why we run barefoot, because running barefoot touches us on an emotional level. And that’s what this movie does too.
Check out the trailer here:

The movie (a DVD really) is 76 minutes long, broken up into 17 chapters, filled with gorgeous shots, and an uplifting, get up and run soundtrack. In fact, that was another piece they went back to the sound room on, three times in fact, to get the music just right. Because they wanted a movie that wouldn’t just teach, but would energize, motivate, and help get people out to run.
Presales have already exceeded expectations, wiping out their first production run. However, they have more on the way, due out October 1st, 2012. They also have two versions, both a US version in NTSC, and a European version in PAL (both region free) to meet the needs of everyone around the world. And thanks to coaxing from Barefoot Ken Bob Saxton and his wife, the DVD is subtitled both for the hearing impaired and ESL audiences.
It’s truly a very special production, beautifully filmed, inspiring, and instructional. People have said it’s not just for barefoot runners or minimalist runners, but for everyone who wants to experience the joy in running, or simply connect with the earth. And for experienced barefoot runners, it’ll help you hone in on near-perfect form.
Even the menu comes to life when you pop it in, with cool barefoot running snippets. Here are screenshots of the chapters from their menu:

There’s even an Outtakes section where you get to join in on the filming journey, and laugh at their foibles as well. Additional features also include an “Aloha” greeting by the Hawaiian kapuna, Auntie Puanani Mahoe, along with a stunning montage of nature photographs taking during Michael and Jessica’s runs on Maui.
Barefoot Running - The Movie is for all levels, and has something for everyone in it. Whether you’re a lifetime barefoot runner, or it’s your first time around the block, no matter what books you’ve read, or what you already know, you need to watch this movie. Not only will it educate, but it’ll touch your heart. It’s something you’ll want to watch over and over again.
About Michael Sandler and Jessica Lee:
wedding-resz-jpg.903

When Michael and Jessica have a mission, they plunge in heart first, head second and give it their all. It is their passion to help people experience the joy of connecting with the earth, both running and walking barefoot. They’ve dedicated their lives to it and give every ounce of effort they have.
Michael got into barefoot running after a near-death accident left him with a titanium femur and hip. And Jessica got involved and started RunBare as a way to help others. Together they’ve worked to teach people worldwide, and to go the extra mile.
Michael Sandler and Jessica Lee have been involved with barefoot running for many years now. A professional athlete and coach for over 20 years, Michael started after a near-death accident in 2006, after which he was told he’d never be able to run again (they were wrong). Jessica started after meeting Michael in 2009. She was inspired to share his story of healing through barefoot running with the world, and to help teach others. Under her guidance, they formed the Boulder Barefoot Running Club in the Summer of 2009. It quickly grew to over 300 members. They then founded RunBare, a company dedicated to help others run barefoot and connect and “Experience the Earth”. They began work on what would become the first book in print on barefoot running, Barefoot Running: How to Run Light and Free by Getting in Touch with the Earth, which came out in March of 2010. With two dogs, Pumpkin and Sawa, in tow they then toured the US and beyond in a little Suzuki hatchback and tiny trailer packed with books. They held over 200 free talks on barefoot running over the next year. Since then they have been working on their next book, Barefoot Walking: Free Your Feet, due out through Random House in March of 2013, and on their movie Barefoot Running – The Movie.
Currently splitting their time between Maui, Hawaii, and Boulder, Colorado, Michael and Jessica can be found running on the trails, setting up retreats, holding inspirational talks and clinics, and working on upcoming books and video projects. Their desire to learn, help, educate and inspire.
A bit more from Michael and Jessica on the movie:
"Barefoot Running - The Movie, has been a long time coming. We started this project after a 6-month book tour where we visited hundreds of cities around the globe. People kept asking, Can you SHOW us barefoot running? What does it LOOK like on the roads? Or on the trails? Or, you can’t do that on rocks, or pavement, or…well, the list goes on and on.
So we wanted to make something that gives people the visual understanding they needed to give it a try. It’s much easier to do something yourself if you can see someone else doing it and having fun at the same time. And we wanted to give them the basic skills and understanding to help them get off on the right foot (no pun intended) without any bad habits. Of course, first amongst that, was getting people out of their shoes, so their skin could be their guide. We wanted to show people how important it is to listen to one’s body, and let their proprioception (what the body feels) guide them.
