So since so many of you are barefoot most of the time, how many head out for a beer or two barefoot? I have been going just about everywhere barefoot lately and on Monday I was going to go to this bar to watch my roommate perform (she plays guitar and sings). When I showed up in flip flops she said, "You're weating shoes?!?!?" I told her that I wouldn't have, but since I was getting there only a few minutes before her set and I hadn't been to that bar before, I wasn't sure how barefoot friendly they were and didn't want them to kick me out without seeing her set. It was a little over a mile walk back to the house and I wouldn't have had time to get back. I basically took them off the whole time I was there. I told her next time I'll go barefoot...lol. I mean, I didn't think they would have a problem since they are the self proclaimed "Best Rock N' Roll Dive Bar in Honolulu"...haha. So that got me wondering...since we call this forum the Barefoot Pub...how many people actually go out to the pub barefoot.

So tonight I decided to hit up a different bar with some friends. The doorman/bouncer asked me at one point when I went out for a cigarette, "Where are your shoes?" I replied that I didn't have any. He said that he wasn't technically allowed to let me in without any (considering that I came from inside without any, I found this to be funny). He said to just be careful of glass and whatnot. I told him that I run barefoot and go everywhere barefoot and that was something I'm always aware of. He seemed cool with that and didn't bother me anymore about it. LOL.

I do it all the time, Bars, Restaurants - whatever. So far no real problems, just once in a hotel restaurant in Viennal, Austria they wanted me to put something on my feet (huaraches did it). Didn't fight at that time - i was a barefoot newbie. Nowadays i'd have an argument.

Always, but prepared.
Not with back-up footwear, but with the state and county health department letters in my wallet.
If the owner is on-site, never a problem once I explain.
If it's an independent one location bar or restaurant, I always find out the owner's name in case he/she isn't there so that I can "drop" it.
If it's a multi location place or corporate owned, I check out the website in advance and get all of the names of the managers/owners/presidents etc.
When I explain to the young assistant manager that "Bob said we're fine" they respond with something like "Bob Smith? Really? You know Bob Smith? Isn't he a great guy! I met him a few times after training!"
What surprises me more though.......you can really run being a smoker?

I don't smoke nearly as much as I used to. Usually a pack lasts about a week. Keep trying to quit, but always seem to fall of the wagon. So I get up, dust myself off and try to mount that pony again. Wait...that ain't right... :p

What's funny is that BF in a bar to me seems worse that BF on the street - more awful stuff to step on (and no light to see to avoid it)...then again, I used to go to some dives where - no matter how clean the place was - the floor was always sticky. Mental note: Carpeting in a bar is a very bad idea. This is not to mention the condition the restrooms usually were in (sometimes, I contributed to that state of disrepair, though, so I can't be too critical).

LOL...Yeah, Pirate, depends a lot on the place as to the crap on the floor. It wasn't too bad at either place. My feet were actually cleaner than when I go to the grocery store...lol.

I don't set out barefoot but often kick my shoes off part way through the night - and yes, some dance floors are sticky & that is a little gross, but by the time I've discovered the stickiness I don't want to put my shoes back on & make them dirty! I did one get a lovely cliched, menacing "I'm not asking" from a bouncer when I ignored him the first time he told me to put my shoes on, decided it safest not to argue. Never cut my feet when barefoot in a bar (yes, there's been glass, same as running you notice pretty quick & I just pick it up) yet have shredded my toes in sandals & once had help a girl into an ambulance who'd done the same.

Yeah, but beer before the race provides for good carb loading, during it numbs minor pains from pushing harder than while training, and after it enhances the post-race glow.
I'm guessing that most smokin' runners are under 45 years of age, unless maybe they just took it up much later in life. That would be a good attention getter......a fast runner still at it at 70, that starts smoking before and after races just to flip people out!

I have been smoking since I was 15. Yes, I can still occassionally be fast. I will get faster, but for the time being, quitting just still seems to elude me. Whenever my ex would say something about it, I'd tell him that we should go for a run...I'll even let him pick the distance. He never once took me up on the offer. Hmmmm...

I wear shoes in, but almost always dance barefooted. One bar employed very nicely told me I needed to put shoes on. He even waited until I was done dancing that particular song. Another place, I wear VFF all leather shoes (don't think they make them anymore) because the floor is chewed up, splintered old fake wood flooring.

Yeah - Remember a few years back when those Reef sandals came out with the bottle opener on the sole? Everyone thought it was soooo coooll...then I asked them to look down the next time they're having a piss and look at what they're standing in and then tell me how eager they are to use that bottle opener to open their beer. Enthusiasm dropped off, quickly.

Haha...sidewalks, streets, trails, usw are not a whole hell of a lot better. This bathroom was cleaner than a lot of streets I've run on. haha.

And in case anyone is wondering about the smoking thing...I just finished a 6.3 mile MAF type run. Maybe about 30 minutes ago actually. As I'm sitting her typing this, my HR monitor is still on and my HR is below 70. Not lying down, didn't just wake up...just my rate after recovery. So I'm not too out of shape...lol. I ain't the fastest, but I am the slowest either.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! I think I just fell off the couch! I saw those but I never had a pair. I always thought that was a worthless idea but I never thought about guys putting other guys pee in their mouths (essentially that is)!

I have been in quite a few different establishments in Winnipeg barefoot, usually happens during our weekly Hasher runs. I have never had a issue, just keep my eyes peeled for broken glass and the like. The funny thing is I have been to a few places that have given some friends of mine problems, but they just allow me to carry on status quo. I have even gotten into a discussion with the bar manager of one place, standing in front of her with my barefeet and not a whisper about my lack of footwear. Meanwhile my friend was asked to put his shoes on he would have to leave, not 5 minutes earlier. It must be charming personality or somethng.;)
