I used to get this pain shod also, usually associated with pushing up millage put now it remains.
About a mile into my runs I start getting a pain that starts from the inside of my left kneecap runs up the quad and terminates at the upper part of the inside of the hip bone. It has been persistent for 4 weeks now W/O mileage increase.

Would more leg and core exercise help this. The pain stops as soon as I stop running.

Some one suggested I may have a hernia although I have noticed no obvious protrusions. I have experienced a slight twinge in the hip area where the pain terminates when carrying 75 lb sacks on my shouder. (yes my job SUX)

All opinoins are greatly appreciated

How about an MRI?

How about an MRI?

 I'm with TJ on this

I'm with TJ on this one...the fact that it radiates up the inside of the leg is a little worrisome....if it was "just the knee" I'd say have someone take a look at your meniscus...the femoral artery is right along those lines, as well as many nerve bundles...it could possibly even be a weird case of siatica....I'd talk to your health care providers about it.

yeah the problem is there' s

yeah the problem is there' s not much any of us on here can tell you. see the doc, get some scans, and stuff like that and then the advice can fly. if it starts in the knee and radiates up that aint good cuz that opposite of the body's natural pattern. stuff is supposed to radiate out and away from the center.

  Oh boyI was hoping someone

Oh boy

I was hoping someone would say "Oh yeah I had that and I did BLAH BLAH BLAH no problem"

I guess it is time to see the Doc

Are you carrying the sacks on

Are you carrying the sacks on both shoulders or do you favor one?

but the pain is just in your

but the pain is just in your left leg? are your legs the same length?

Definetly keep us informed, I

Definetly keep us informed, I had the exact same problem when I was a shod runner. It was bad to the point I stopped running for two months, went back running and ended up twisting my knee in a hole. After that, I was in a car accident and got my knee smacked really hard in that. I just got back into my running and doing it barefoot 6 months ago. It's not been an easy road for me as far as running goes. I love running, it keeps my mind free, Mom died right before mother's day of this year, and running is a good theraputic medicine for that. Hopefully I can get better with it and move forward.

I am so sorry about your mom,

I am so sorry about your mom, E. I understand. My dad passed away December 30, not quite 6 months ago. It hurts. I hope you will adjust and find peace in your memories of her.

   The othopedic surgeon sent

The othopedic surgeon sent me too Physical therepy. The Therepist described my hip flexors as "Unbelievably Tight" Apparently the muscle on the inside of my leg had been overcompensating all these years causing pain. It also has been causing my right foot to point out to the right too far.

At one point she had me lie down on the examination table face up with my butt at the edge and told me to relax my legs. apparently my knee should have flexed so my feet would point downward. No Way relaxed it all pointed almost straight out. I had to put an effort into getting the bottom half of my legs to point downward!

I have 5 more appointments and lots of stretching in between. I feel a lot better knowing what it is and nothing major.

Well I guess we do need to stretch!!!!!

I'm so glad you found out

I'm so glad you found out what it is, and that it's not something requiring surgery or anything. Hope the PT and stretching work well!

Good luck, Dawg.  Let us know

Good luck, Dawg. Let us know if it does the trick.

Wow, tight hip flexors, who'd

Wow, tight hip flexors, who'd have thought. Keep up the stretching on those puppies! Hope this resolves your pain issues

Sounds like it could be work

Sounds like it could be work related more than running, if lifting and carring heavy loads i.e. 75 plus pounds as you said then you could have pinched a nerve in your lower back. This mostly causes pain to go from your hip all the way down your leg but in some cases I've herd that its started in the knee and went up. Best fix for it that I've herd of as long as it's majorly pinched i.e. slipped disk. Is go to a ciropractor and get them to do a body alinement cost between 75 and 200 dollars depends on ciropractor. Cause lifting and carring heavy stuff for long periods will throw your body's natural alinement off, happen to me in Iraq when I was running around all day in 60 -80 pounds of gear.

Hi Ralph, just wanted to say

Hi Ralph, just wanted to say thank you for your service to our country.

         ALRIGHTY THEN!!!I

ALRIGHTY THEN!!!

I have been doing my stretches and it seems to be doing the trick. up to 3 miles with no pain. My life at work seems to be easier too. I don't have that achy old man feeling ALL DAY long , now it kicks in after 9 or ten hours @ work.

I am only a week into doing these twice a day and I am surprised at the difference. I used to be on the fence about stretching not no more!!
