About
I'm a nurse who works on a cardiac/neuro step down unit in the town that I live in. It's a great little hospital that consistently ranks far above the state and national average with regard to many important healthcare system concerns. I work long hours and often work overtime, which means I'm on my feet on ridiculously hard floors a lot! I'm also a father of 2 great kids and I've been an avid runner for +20 years. Admittedly, I've run in pain for the past +10 years -- something that has greatly diminished my ability to run. I felt like I wanted to run for health and those aches and pains were better than coronary artery disease (something I deal with daily at work, or diabetes (common at work, too). I always blamed my aches and pain on my job/busy life and figured the running (shod) helped keep it to a minimum. While work and a busy life contributed to the issue, the real culprit was living in shoes! It took a couple of years and guidance from friend, who is a Chiropractor, for me to fully realize this (my Chiropractor friend is now starting to bridge over to the barefooted side, too). I sought out more answers to living an active, pain free, life and stumbled onto barefoot running. I've been running/living as much of my life as possible barefoot for about 12 weeks now (as of 7/15/14). The transition has been smooth and I can run about 6 miles chronic pain free (I still experience instant ouches such as landing on pieces of gravel, or stubbing my toe on something). My energy level is amazing, my attitude is improved, and I look forward to going further and further.Interact
