I'm so sorry. What did the physio say? I know you said you were having tight calves. Is that part of the reason why you don't want to run anymore? Tight calves are something you can overcome. Lots of people get tight calves due to the change in footwear/barefoot, forms, etc., but it can be worked through.

Thanks Barefoot TJ, it seems to be high number of fast twitch fibres fatiguing rapidly causing a cramping sensation. It used to only happen on my right but now on my left too. I have had dry needling done, and advised stretches and strengthening exercises from physio. I was experiencing this issue on my right calf a couple years ago wearing Nike Free during marathon prep, it's me rather than my style it seems.

Have you tried posting in our Ask the Docs forum about this?

Really not sure, I thought it was a biomechanical issue with my hip rotation plus slight scoliosis, but now it's on my left I really have no idea. Seeing local physio today, hopefully he is sympathetic to my barefoot tendencies

I'm going to try a very slow and cautious (but increases cadence) 10km tomorrow, running injury free is my goal. Thanks for all the advice

New to barefoot running, committed to the cause! Been slowly working my way up with barefoot beach runs, vibram five fingers road, trail and treadmill running. Looking to get back to previous running high of mountain trail runs!
