Always hated running. My Father belonged to a Runner's Club when I was a kid, but I just hated running although I tried. I *wanted* to like it, but I just didn't "get it". My wife and I bought a treadmill about 10 years ago. Again, over many years, I tried to run on the treadmill but found it somewhat detestable. Then we got a dog (Old English Sheepdog). I am generally a barefoot person by nature, so in good weather I always walked the dog barefoot. At the end of our walks, I would race the dog for a bit with a sprint home. I noticed that I ran on the ball of my foot when I sprinted barefoot. Didn't think much of it then.

Then I had a disagreement with a neighbor, and I had a very "angry" time of life. To deal with it, I forced myself to get on the treadmill. At some point, I figured I would try running the way I ran with the dog, on the balls of my feet. My calves were in knots for a week, but in spite of that, I discovered I *loved* this running style. I then struggled with what I call "sneaker brainwashing", wondering what the point of the running shoe was if I didn't have a heel-strike. And so began my self-education on barefoot running.

On and off for some 4 decades, I had tried running....even *wanted* to run.....but simply couldn't stand it. When I lost the shoes, I was literally transformed. My feet ache to run now. They actually talk to me. I also mountain hike barefoot (Did Mt. Avalon in NH barefoot this summer).

I run barefoot outside, and with some "Snox" socks on the treadmill. Went my furthest distance just yesterday, 6 miles.
