How do you mow your grass?

But who mows the lawn barefoot?

Not me.

Me me I do I do! In fact this entire barefoot lifestyle change/adventure I've been on since May 2011 started because I decided to try cutting the grass barefoot one day. I even run the trimmer in shorts, barefoot. But I do wear eye protection, and usually wear gloves when using the mower (21 year old Honda that starts EVERY time) to cut down on the teeth-jarring vibration coming up through the handle.

There is a goat rental business here locally, for grass management. I have considered it....I hate mowing.
My wife is from Brazil and when she first saw all the lawns she said......geez...why don't you just pave all of that. It would be easier to take care of.....lol
she also thought we should get all the deer and put them in a fenced off area so they wouldn't cross the road and get hit....gotta love her!

Been using one of these lately...bad timing since the lawn was reseeded and we've had heaps of rain! Good workout though.

On a side note, one of my friends chopped off his toes mowing the lawn barefoot...it can and does happen so be safe, people!

Our poor wives...coming from such warm climates to such harsh Mid-West winters......oh boy

Yah, the first winter, 2011-2012, which, in Minnesota at least, was the fifth snowiest on record, my wife was bed-ridden with our second pregnancy. She had the bedroom at 75-80 degrees. Then last winter is one of the mildest on record, and she's complaining about the lack of snow, and was enjoying sleeping under the crisp, cool air of 65 degrees. She still has an exaggerated idea of how warm it has to be before our toddler son can walk outside without footwear though. I tell her I grew up with this, I know when it's too cold for him to be barefoot, but the native point-of-view doesn't seem to hold much sway with her.

hahahaha......I'll be there soon enough.
Hopefully we'll be in a more mild climate however.
If you are even in Michigan...give us a shout :)
The Michigan side of Lake Michigan is just as beautiful if not more than any ocean scape....just sayin

Yah, I know the UP and Ann Arbor a bit, and imagine the rest of Michigan must be pretty similar to Minnesota. Our North Shore of Lake Superior is also pretty nice, but there's nothing like sipping damn cold beer on a beautiful beach in Brazil or Moz. Will definitely look you up if I make my way east, but like you, I'm thinking more south, or west.

I have one of those push mowers too Ramvez!!! Although I will confess that we hardly ever mow the yard... Wait... I think Im in the wrong thread here...

Oh. and as far as the tree and nuts issue, I use this razor type device that removes all grass.

Well one option is clover... as long as you dont mind your 'lawn' a little bit tall you never have to mow... and better for bees and other insects.

How about chain saws? Wood splitters, roto tillers jack hammers, BF, BN?? Man up!:D
Yeah... I know this will be unpopular but I do barefoot to be natural, doing natural things like walking, running, hiking. Operating heavy machinery or dangerous equipment IMO isnt natural and I value my limbs too much. Not just boots but puncture resistant, steel toed, kevlar lined, metetarsal gaurd boots :p along with my kevlar chaps, helmet w. face shield, flip down ear muffs. I'm hard core in PPE especially since I am usually in the woods by myself, no cell service, and a good mile away from another soul.

Tristan, the Columbia River provides most of the electricity to the Portland Area, primarily from the Bonneville Dam. As to the specification thing, I hear you. I used to work for the Power company back home in GA which was mostly coal. It is all connected, but the utility company often purchases from a generation concern. With the Portland area being very green focused, much is bought from hydro and wind providers (Wind power is exploding in Oregon/Washington, with a couple wind generation companies HQ'd in Portland now).
I hear ya, actually I work for the power company here... [unfortunately] one of the largest fleets of coal generation. But we also have lots of wind and hydro, I am actually running the hydro generation desk today (I rotate between our various generation fleets since I know how to run all of them) we have 17 different hydro projects plus a couple from other companies that we run, totaling over 70 individual generators. But you never hear about those, just the huge coal plants.

Back on topic... I'll have to dig out my old reel mower and try er out! Think it was getting a bit dull though.

It's funny, I was just thinking that yesterday. My daughter and I were looking at a patch of clover that's invading our yard, and I thought how much nicer it looks than grass.
Yep...."weeds" are a very subjective category of plant
