What beer are you drinking tonight? For the new forum...

I really like how Germany does their beverages. A case is 20 bottles. Period. Not 18, 24, 30, and the big 36's of Naty light or PBR. (Although I like the lighter and cheaper beer in the summer). And now the 12 packs here have become 10 packs or 8 packs and the 6 packs have become 5 packs or 4 packs. I know variety is good, but it's getting confusing.
Now for the size rant. Too many sizes here. 7 oz mini beers, imports are coming in at 11.2 oz, stubby bottles at 11 oz., normal 12 oz, tall boys 16 oz. Need I go on?
I went to a restaurant. The beer was listed on the menu at 16 oz. The waitress brought me a 12 oz. beer in a glass. I told her it was 12 oz, she told me it was 16. I finished the beer, ordered a 12 oz. bottled Budweiser and poured it into the glass in front of her. When the beer filled the whole glass, her reaction was "Oh". I let it go. The micro brew must have been more dense, like my waitress. In Germany at a restaurant, two choices: at .33 liter pilsner, or .5 liter wheat or normal beer. Simple. At a beer tent: .5 liter wheat beer, or 1 liter normal beer. Simple. End beer size rant.

Willie - I just did the math and your neighbor is averaging 28 beers per day. You better get in on some of his parties.

Last night I had some more good Northwest choices: Red Hook IPA and Sessions Black Lager by Full Sail.

Another good "canned" beer is Dale's Pale Ale.

hahaha, no! I should've eleborated. Yeah, he gets a beer delivery like that but his brother, wife and now young teenage son (not to mention a couple sociable neighbors, ahem) play a part in consuming the stuff. Plus, he has a sort of "unlisted" gambling parlor in his garage - two slot machines - and gets visitors on the weekends...

I was stunned by the crazy beer sizes in the US when I visited in November. It had been three years since my pervious visit and SO much had changed (in suburban NY). And the good stuff is expensive, geesh.

today, Jakarta

Martinis, Heineken, Sake

Ah, I support your size matters rant, Rick. It pisses me off as well. You order a pint in the U.S. and they bring you 12oz of beer...that's B.S.! I do so miss the German beer and glasses...especially since they mark most of the glasses with the size right there with a handy fill line.... 0.5L or 1.0L or whatever. Every nation should take that kind of pride and professionalism in their beer. I even recall their shots were measured last time I was there.

I drink too often to post every time, but lately I've had my usual favorite microbrews from Freetail Brewing which included Pale Tail Ale, Tadarida IPA, Soul Doubt, Red Tail and I also visited the Flying Saucer last night for some Shiner Wild Hare Pale and an Amber Cider.

Tonight, in Singapore with two remaining hours of my layover, drinking Tiger Beer for a day-late celebration

Hey Longboard,

Good to hear from you again. Interesting article. I prefer farm raised bison even though I'm half Japanese and some of our alfalfa cubes feed Japanese cattle. I quit buying store beef when they were required to put the county of origin on the label. One package of burger had a label, "may contain beef from USA, Canada, Korea, or Mexico". Why should we import any beef? If there is one product that Americans should be able to do right, it should be beef.

Wow, such sophisticates! Honestly, my beer criteria was simple: 1) On Sale, 2) Cold, 3) In the Fridge (more of a proximity thing than a cold thing). Fortunately, 2 and 3 sort of took care of themselves as a function of being beer, so it got down to 1, which meant 90% of the time it was Natty Light (yeah yeah yeah, you can take the boy out of Fresno, but you can take the Fresno out of the boy....b'sides, I could by 30 for $14.99 on sale), and the other 10% being Corona/Land Shark (same difference) or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale with some randoms mixed in (Red Stripe, Dog Fish, Lagunitas, Mirror Pond, etc...)

Now, my IPA story: A couple of years ago I was having a Super Bowl party and ordered a Pony Keg of IPA from the local microbrewery (Faultine in Sunnyvale). When I went to pick it up, they made a mistake and filled a full keg...being that it was their mistake, the manager did not see fit to charge me for the extra beer. It was a good game.

Coors..... Cheapest beer yesterday at store and thanks to the president spending too much and then cutting budget on us 1 percenters (we don't effect the votes much) I'm poor.

Yuenglings Lord Chesterfield Ale for me tonite...picked up some for a friend to try...I like it a little better than the regular Yuenglings lagar.

Chad - that's a new one.... bacon Martinis!

Yuenglings Lord Chesterfield Ale

Wow - I did not know that Yeungling made anything other than Lager and Black and Tan. When I was living in PA, I had to develop a taste for the lager because that's what most folks had in their fridge...

Many years ago - before I moved to PA - a friend and I were back there on a business trip. Eating dinner at the bar, we asked if they had any microbrews on tap. The bartendress replied "No, but we have this weird beer that I've never heard of." "Oh? What is it?" "Something called Sierra Nevada" "Perfect. Two, please."

"Weird beer" indeed...

I heard that at last weekend's University of Michigan graduation ceremony Dr. Sanjay Gupta was the commencement speaker, and part of his speech included something like "Remember to always drink really good beer! Go to Ashley's ( an Ann Arbor pub featuring many craft beers). Matter of fact, if I see any of you at Ashley's, I'LL buy YOU a really good beer!"
I'm going to be in Ann Arbor tomorrow for a trip to the neurosurgery department following my abdominal ultrasound in Troy MI, and since CNN's Dr. Gupta is a U-M trained neurosurgeon I think it only proper to stop at Ashley's to take it all in after the two appointments.
Chances of making it to Kalamazoo Sunday to at least observe IBRD? Not much.
But have'nt ruled it out!

edit: found the Gupta quote, was pretty close.....http://wwww.annarbor.com/news/sanja...-beer-wolverine-pride-and-love-for-ann-arbor/
