I'm looking for a pair of running shorts that keep me legal, but otherwise make me feel like i'm running naked. Because i am really hating sweaty heavy anything (shoes, socks, underwear, shorts, shirts, etc). I dont mind if they are very short (see my avatar for the length i like) but they need to be super lightweight, good at not getting heavy when wet, dry quickly, and feel so lightweight that you wonder if you forgot something before your run.

Also, who makes the really good short running shorts (that are actually for real runners, not chippendale dancers). What's a good resource for finding different brands. I like Brooks as they have some 2 inch inseem shorts.

On a related note, do men actually run in compression shorts ONLY, or are those supposed to go UNDER a pair of actual running shorts. I always wondered (have never purchased or tried).

Do they make booty shorts for men? Women, are these actually comfortable? Not sure if i want a tight fit running, but i wont knock it until i try it. :)

I really like my Tasc shorts for running...

...lightweight, comfortable and fast drying. Only one pocket (has a zipper) that’s big enough for a key, cash, and I.D.

I have a pair of 3" Asics split shorts that are a close approximation. You can see them in my profile thumbnail on the left there. No movement restriction at all on the legs. They have a liner so you're not flashing everyone when you sit down.

For the record, I also run in just compression shorts (I have several pairs by 2XU) without an overshort and have never received any comments -- negative or positive. Usually folks are still getting over the fact that I'm running without shoes and haven't gotten around to judging me on my choice of clothing yet.

Thank you for the feedback. Question about the compression shorts. Is there a difference between compression shorts and compression underwear? When i go into sporting goods stores, i cannot tell if each item is meant to be worn by itself or under something. :)

In general, if something says "base layer" then they expect you to wear something over it. For the ones that aren't specified, you kind of have to judge first by the 'thinness' of the material. And then if the company's logo is splashed all over it (e.g. 2XU), it's probably meant to be worn on its own. If it has its own pockets, it's probably meant to be worn alone. Finally, if the shorts are all-black, you get a little more margin of error on modesty even if it turns out they're just 'underwear' made with heavier material. :)
