I'll preface this post by saying that I've never ran an organized 10k before. For various reason really, but I either couldn't justify the cost or the training routine to run it. I'm more of a spur of the moment, let's run the beach or hike for 15k kind of guy. I'll be running in my favorite old NB minimalist shoes. They work great for me because I have wide feet (hence my handle) and some of the minimalist shoes are too narrow. Plus I got them on sale about 4 years ago.

You'll be fine. It's actually fun to run with a large group of people. You can talk to others or ignore them completely and just listen to all the footfalls, something you won't hear in a group of barefoot runners. ;) If you're trying to set a personal best, then running in a group can also motivate you to run quicker. I always liked to pick someone out who was ahead of me and tell myself to catch up to them; then when I did, I'd pick out the next person. It's a fun game.

So... When will you try a barefoot run/race? :barefoot:

Thanks for the advice! Actually the race is tomorrow (3/31) lol. I'm mad at myself, who races on Sunday? If there are bf races in my area (DC metro) I'd love to try one

The best advice is to just build up gradually. Don't rush the process. It's going to take time for you to condition your feet, ligaments, etc.

An ultra most likely will be sometime in the future but not the near future. Be patient.
