So finally, after hiking, running 10k's, etc, I also started mud runs. Last Sunday, I took to what might be deemed a "soft" version of a Spartan run, with very easy obstacles, not too much mud and a short trail run of 6 kms.

Overall, no big difference with running/hiking barefoot, but much easier for me for some obstacles which involved jumping and trodding into a muddy river. I had way more difficulty over a part with a lot of chipped gravel - slowed down to a walk, and my feet are still a bit sensitive, two days after, on the heels.

Now, next, I am considering whether I should participate to the Spartan sprint taking place in one month...

Are you still worried about the sensitivity from the "soft" mud run to then tackle the harder mud run of Spartan?

Now, here is the thing... The "mud" part of the race did not cover more than 100 m over 6 kms. The rest of the track was mainly ordinary trail running + a very nasty chipped gravel section (check my youtube videos).

Normally, I can cover double the distance on trail running in real trail conditions. I guess the gravel got me in the end...

I guess spartan should be easier... Provided they don't decide to make a section filled with pebbles and gravel!

What about carrying enclosed minshoes for the gravel section only?

Yes, I've seen your gravely trails. :nailbiting:

Neat challenge, the videos inspire. It’s warming up this afternoon after last nights sleet and I’m thinking the trails will be deliciously muddy right now...

Go for it!

So, I registered for my first spartan race in one month... And found this in their material.
"We do not recommend barefoot running. 我們不建議赤腳跑步" :(

Does ‘recommend’ translate to ‘ban’? Would there be a backlash if you ran barefoot?

Probably not. But in general, the race takes place through gravel and wild growth (ok, nothing I have not done before). Speed not gonna be really a factor for me.

I’m finding the gravel easier to tread on with each outing but the wild growth here is a new challenge for me. I recently tried what looked like an inviting jaunt down a cattle trail that was beaten down grasses but it ended up being quite painful (lots of sharp/pointy/prickly stuff). Adaptation continues. Kudos to you for being able to traverse it.
