Winter 2018 is coming.

I had my first wet, barefoot, <50F run yesterday, and I loved how the rain and puddles felt. Then I saw that the Winter Challenge log appears to be for last year. Is there a 2018-2019 log? If not, I’d be happy to put a spreadsheet together and manage that, but I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes...so to speak.

Who is heading the challenge up this season?

I think I’ll put together a spreadsheet that’ll allow folks to enter basic data about themselves (username and region), then log each run, and have leaderboards for bare/min, run/walk, temp category and region all calculated automatically. (If Google Docs will let me do that... I’m used to Excel, so maybe I’m planning on using functions that Google doesn’t have.) And if folks are interested. Seems like that’d be easier than what I see in the 2017-2018 sheet as it’d save folks from the hassle of summing their own runs, but I haven’t been here long enough to see all the ways this data is used. I’m completely happy to defer to folks who’d rather manage this, and I’m open to just copying the old sheet and tracking things from there, or adding other features, or whatever ... but I’m excited to track my winter miles, so I want to get this started one way or the other.

Today promising 1st snow here.
We should see a bit of snow in Paris tonight and tommorrow! Weird...
What is your footwear of choice in that case? VFF?

I think this is the link to this year's sheet...

Hi Christian,
Just to share my own experience... For a short run (I mean 2-3 km ), I would recommend to try barefoot, especially if you have fresh and dry snow. Really great :D.
Last year I ran a 6 km race with VFF V Run and socks on paths with melting snow aside and I got my feet wet and quite cold :coldfeet:.
Enjoy!

I tried barefoot snow running once, back in 2012, and had a lot of fun, although I lost all the skin on the bottom of both feet due to the melted salt water from the streets as I crossed between snowy parks. Still, running in the powder was magical.

Here's the video !
