I think the sight of bare feet makes them nervous... as in "what are people going to bare next?"

If I remember correctly, Barefoot Preston coined the term toe-ga some 15-20 years ago on the old Yahoo Running Barefoot forum. It may have existed prior, but we had not heard of it (other than the "toga" part - as in ancient Roman garb).
