Dry, dead, cracking shin on your heels!

I apologize. I overspoke. I don't doubt that Vasoline can help.

However, I won't retreat from saying that there is no need for such a gloppy attempt at a solution. And, at that, a "solution" that is not as effective as something containing urea (and doesn't address the root cause).

Seriously. Try the Flexitol Heel Balm and you'll see it works even better, and without all the glop.
Oh, I believe you, Ahcuah. I know you're an ardent barefooter/barefoot hiker, so I can image you have a lot of experience with this. It's just that Vaseline is something lots of people have in their cabinets, so that's why I recommended it.

Lipstick?!?! Really?
Well, that will make for a colorful footprint, at least. ;) I bet you can tell where your cat sits, too! Lol!! (Link to Fark thread about that.)
Don't laugh at this one... Black and Decker orbital sander. 80 grit paper. Kinda loud. Do it out in the garage/shop. Best thing I've ever used to grind off the dead cracking skin. Havent' had to do that in several years, though.[/QU

I've taken some pleasure in picking off the dead skin while watching tv. I get a good stretch reaching for my feet and the dog gets a snack! Win, win!

I had this problem for a few months recently and it went away when I started using a foot moisturizer with urea. My thought was that all the soaping I do after runs was removing the natural oils or whatever.

Same thinking here. I never really use a soap on my feet. I try to keep the natural oil doing its work on keeping the skin moisturized. When they get muddy and dirty just washing in warm water is enough for me. No heel cracking problems here.

I'm more of a minimalist maintenance, abrasive buff once in awhile guy.

A little buffing using an emery sort of board in the shower keeps the cracks from making me miserable.

I have noticed that there seems to be some seasonal aspect to the appearance of the problem.
