I'm quite a hairy guy but as i've go older my chest hair has become like wire wool and i'm getting a lot of chaffing and soreness when running, I even found a squirrel nesting in it the other day;). It's also gone grey which is playing with my 'i'm still 18' psyche.
What's the best way to get rid of it? Keep in mind that I have never shaved a body part once in my life, ever.
Ladies feel free to chime in, I know you've all got legs sorted and know about this stuff.

Also skin care, all that sort of stuff that blokes aren't supposed to talk about, but may help me stop turning into a prune with grey hairy bits. I think i've got more oestrogen than testosterone running through me these days, all of a sudden this stuff matters and it's all very confusing. Midlife crisis or what!

"... may help me stop turning into a prune with grey hairy bits." I think this goes with the aging thing. Death would stop that process, but seems a bit drastic. As to the chafing, I often use coconut oil to grease the spot in my armpits where my lats and triceps rub and down below where the twins and the inner thighs rub. If I'm planning to go really far, like more than five or so hours, I'll use Runguard instead, or apply it as needed.

You can try waxing but be sure to watch The 40 Year Old Virgin first. Or in other words, don't try waxing.

Randy

Lol, i'm afraid if I try waxing my skin would come off with it, swiftly followed by internal organs, not much collagen left these days;)
I'm a modern man though, i'm open to all suggestions so waxing made the list.

I prefer hair cutter, not shave. Then you neednot to use any skin care things after. Start at height of cut around 5-8 mm. Once in month or so.
Im using something like this:

Good suggestion Einar, does it stop the chaffing? I really don't want to shave at all.
I wouldn't mind a skin care regime though, I think it would do me good to start paying attention to myself more, psychologically and physically. Personal grooming isn't something that's ever been on my radar, but all of a sudden i'm getting pings and blips from the echo sounder . I'm sure it's an age thing that everyone needs to work through at some stage, like Gordon mentioned.

So the choices are probably:
1. Waxing (Ouch! Can't imagine you'd want to do that -unless of course you're doing it to raise an awful lot of money for charity).
2. Shaving (If you're anything like me, you'll probably end up cutting yourself at every stroke and just end up looking like you've walked through a dense rose bush).
3. Trimming with clippers or scissors to a reasonable length (probably the most comfortable suggestion)
4. Start running sans shirt! -I do believe this is the only option that has the advantage of preventing the squirrel becoming another homeless statistic!;)...
:coldfeet: :chicken:

Also had a tooth out today which really sucks. Dentures were mentioned. I just worry the pipe, slippers and plaid jumper comes next. No damnit! I'm going to grow old disgracefully no matter how many bits fall off.
-hope that heals soon (not a pleasant experience I know...)

Lol, but I could wax it off for a homeless squirrel charity and everyones a winner, as long as it doesn't try to take revenge and bury my nuts.

I wish more people (especially men) would be less afraid to talk about such things. Ignoring or making people (especially men) feel such issues should be taboo, only makes our society more ugly (and now I'm not talking about skin and hair - there are far less superficial ugliness out there).

Nice thing about chest hair, is it helps hold the shirt out away from your nipples (can I say "nipples" here?). That may reduce the nasty bleeding nipples we often see on marathon runners, especially on rainy days. On the other hand, it might just make it worse, by concentrating the abrasion on the tip (can I say "tip" here?) if your chest hair isn't long or thick enough.

Or just go shirtless, most people will probably just think you're wearing an old sweater.

For skin: feed your skin from the inside by eating healthy, whole, natural foods (I'm Vegan, but most people won't want to go that far). Don't scrub too hard. Use simple soaps, without too much perfumes and other chemicals (I use Dr. Bronners)

Otherwise, I don't put much junk on my skin, other than some aloe after too much sun and wind.

In general, my theory, since I left 18 more than 40 years ago, is to embrace who/what you are becoming.

Relax, relax, relax!
Enjoy the ride.
And of course, HAVE FUN!

I remember reading once that 'nature loves diversity but society hates it'.
I was hoping more men or women would chime in, I tried to open the thread as non binary as possible. I'm very open to free expression and not repression.

I use Dr. Bronners

Me too! Dr. Bronners Hemp and almond, along with some hemp moisturisers from the bodyshop, which I only started using this year. I'm finding it nice to spend some time with my body. it's really surprising how disconnected i'd become from me old carcass beyond running.

The nature of society is to make sure everyone is unnaturally conformist.

Thanks for the KenBobisms:happy: Funny how isms are like chameleons, the colours change from day to day and you only tend to notice them when they move for you.

It always amazes me how you never stop awakening, accepting, re-evaluating, challenging and yes 'coming out' to a more honest expression of your true nature against the overwhelming force of social pressure.
You see it in a lot of new barefoot runners when they are compelled to take their shoes off in public for the first time, all the doubts, fears of social rejection come flooding in.
Sometimes it's like embracing a cactus, other times it's like being washed in the most beautiful clarity.

so, another hairy question for you, long-hair naturally-healthy guys

ok for the soap, I use the local ones,
but for the hair, how do you wash it ? I had long hair during three years, had to cut them recently cause they were completely broken.
I dunno if its because of the ocean (I jump there almost every day), or because of my "natural" recipes (bicarbonate then white vinager)

and yes, barefoot running also invited me to run shirtless,
lets say, to show and to live my body, to assume it,
I discovered the sun and the wind on my skin, the kind of things you never think about when you grow up in a banlieue
