After a year of running in town, as opposed to when we lived on a acreage, my biggest nemesis is glass! I run on paved bike trails, and I've had to remove shards 3 times this summer. It's what you can't see that gets me! Tiny shards, and they hurt like ***k! Very hard to remove especially when embedded on tough skin. But, damn the torpedos, I'm not shoeing up! There, rant mode now off!

I had a bad summer like that once, where it seemed that every run ended with some tiny glass shard I couldn't see getting in my foot.

For some reason I've avoided the tiny shards. I haven't encountered such in years despite being largely an "urban" runner lately. Must be my clean living and kind spirit protecting me.

I did punch a good sized hole through my plantar skin when I stepped on a shell at the beach last week. I swore like a sailor and felt entirely let down by my supposedly tough skin. Ha!

I have picked up 2 shards in 2 weeks. A new record for me. Probably didn't pick up 2 shards in the last year.

I believe it is because I am running down busier streets, and therefore more sidewalks and less road - gotta catch 'em all.

BTW. Pokemon Go and ultramarathon training go hand in hand quite well!

Must be less bottle breaking a**holes in your area!
