Saw this little clip last night of the 2015 UBTF race around mount fuji, it's amazing to see how far the Tarahumara have spread their wings, They appear a few times in this short clip.
You were there? It felt somewhat strange seeing them there, I guess we will read more about this
I second this question. Why didn't they finish? Born to Run sounds like they are totally awesome runners.Really, why did that happen?

Is this the one?: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/11/tarahumara-people/gorney-textBTR was a great book but I think Mcdougall stretched some of his stories to make it more appealing. The "newer" generation of Tarahumara runners are certainly not like the runners they used to be 30 or 40 years ago. Their lifestyle is more modernized. Their was a great story about the Tarahumara in National Geographic around the same time BTR came out. NG displayed the Tarahumara's lifestyle much differently than BTR portrayed.
This is not the first race that the Tarahumara DNF'ed, for some reasons they do not do well when taken out of their element and comfort zone.
Maybe they were forced to wear big, bulky BS shoes!
I was being facetious.Maybe not. Did you actually watch the video?
I got the impression from the book that they were not competitive. They ran and raced because they liked it. It doesn't seem like they are too fond of our type of society. Were the Tarahuamara ever competitive?
Motivations for racing are definitely cultural. They may have gotten out of the race what they set out to achieve.
I was being facetious.
Jou mean like:Hey, none of the funny stuff here.
