Hi, all. I searched for a barefoot forum and this is what I found. I'm not really a runner, but I do like being barefoot. I used to say, "I was born barefoot, and I never got over it." However, I don't go outside barefoot as much as I would like. School and work require shoes/sandals. As I looked at some of the threads here, I could see that all of you are barefoot a lot more than I am.

Welcome Random from Utah,

I just started being barefoot outside of my home and I'm loving it. But still haven't had a full day barefoot yet. I'm still working through that whole stigma thing, but have visited a few stores barefoot and it felt great. Can't wait for warmer weather to do even more.

Check out the chapters, and join Utah. Click on the members map to find anyone near you. Of course the forums are great, there is something for everyone who is barefoot or wears minimalist shoes. Enjoy, have fun and once again welcome.

Thanks for the welcome. :)

Thanks for the link Barefoot TJ.

I bought my first pair of minimalist shoes recently. They're the most comfortable shoes I've ever gotten. (Vivobarefoot) Does anyone know if "minimalist" comes in sandals? I've not seen any.

My goal is to begin walking barefoot now, before the temp soars above 100F. (When I was a child, I lived in this area and went barefoot all the time, even in the summers; I'd like to regain that ability.)

Since I last posted, I began reading Born to Run. It makes me want to run. I've never been an athlete, so I wonder if it's really possible (as in realistic) to become a runner.

Welcome, Random! :barefoot: We're the only Barefoot Running Forum with a barefoot smiley!

"I was born barefoot, and I never got over it." That should be added to our Funny lines for the back of my tee shirt:

I made a post there; go ahead and add it to the list.

Love the barefoot smiley!

Do you know what you need to become a runner? Nothing! Not even shoes, mind you! Just the will of trespassing the threshold of your door and going out.
Two years ago I did not run. At all. Now I'm just on a train coming back home after my 1st barefoot 10k race.
Just give it and yourself a try.

But do your research well first, make a plan for a slow, steady transition from inactivity to fitness, and from shod to barefoot. If you just dive in deep, you're very likely to injure yourself. This from someone who did just that. Best on your transition, and congratulations on the desire to become a runner - just do it wisely.

Hi Random,
Everyone's a runner. Some run long distances and for many hours, other just a minute or less and just some meters. You have to start somewhere, I'm running around five miles a week in three sessions but it's getting more every week. make a plan, listen to your body and adjust the plan as your body says it's too mutch. (I didn't and overstrained my right foot.
Take your time and enjoy the run as long or short it is.

I don't think I should make a new thread about this, but I did want to share my tiny success (since it was your encouragement that helped).

I have a yoga class every Monday morning. Toward the end of class today, I was invigorated and wanted to run, so after class I put my sandals in my hand and started. Now, it was very, very small. I went only about 3 blocks, and only ran about 1 1/2 of those (the first 3/4 block was uphill; it felt great!). It was sidewalk all the way (no gravel anywhere), so being barefoot all the way was super-easy.

It felt so good to do that that, amid memories of people saying, "It's illegal," I drove home barefoot. I can't tell you how awesome and supported I feel having come across a group of people who are into being barefoot in life.

Welcome, Random.

So, here's a thing. May 1, up north, in SLC, at Liberty Park will be our International Barefoot Running Day (IBRD) run. You should come up. You don't have to run, there is no entry fee, and you can even come in sandals, flip-flops, VFFs, etc. I suspect you could even come up in a standard wedge shoe, but expect mockery if you do so. I checked out the trail and if you love being barefoot, you're gonna love the wood chips on the trail.

Good to have you on board.

I'm definitely not looking for the Age/Gender/Relationship status here. Just inviting those nearby. I really don't care about the age unless I need to take precautions for your health due to it. Of course I may just be saying that because I am an old man.
