Monday, I ran 10.5 relaxed barefoot miles around my pond loop at a pleasant dry, sunny 37 degrees WITHOUT wind!

Tuesday, it was the spin bike for 75 minutes, swimming a bit faster for 20 minutes, and a weight session at the gym in Sockwas.

Boy, were my legs tired. I thought about running up until about 5:00 pm, then decided What I needed most was a hot bath.

Today is Thursday and I am on the spin bike for 60 minutes, because I don't go run in the dark at 20 some degrees and we leave soon after sunrise to fly to Seattle to visit the newest grand babies, the twins born 3 months ago. But I have running clothes packed.

Interesting intersection between my running and my Chnese language studies on Monday. A tutoring company found my blog funlearningchinese.com and contacted me about mentioning their service. One thing led to another, and they asked if I would like a free trial lesson so I could write a review, so I said, "sure!" When the rep called to set things up, we spoke some in Chinese and she asked what subject I would like to learn vocabulary in. After looking at other notes from lessons with my tutor, I decided on "exercise." This led to talking about running and my mentioning I had run 10.5 miles that day. The young female rep commented that I would probably want to run a marathon some day, to which I could reply that I already had. She immediately asked what my time was, which I answered with the stat of 4 hours 45 minutes. She said, "that is fast!, to which I obviously responded, "no, not
a really." A little further on in the conversation she also found our I am an almost 55 year old grandma. She was struggling just a little to form an English sentence at this point, but finally told me,"The reason I say that is fast is because I have run a marathon and it took me 5.5 hours! You shock me!" She clearly wanted to stay on the line and talk more, but it was a business call from China, so we finally says goodbye. She is going to try to get permission to be at the first part of the virtual lesson, though, " to meet me."

8mile on early monday
8miles hills today plus a few more hiking.
Made friends with a kestrel today as i was running along a hedgerow. It would hover twenty yards or so in front of me, wait for me to catch up, i presume in the hope i'd scare a critter from the undergrowth that would make for an easy meal, and then move forward another twenty yard.
We were in perfect synergy for about a mile, the kestrel kept pace and i supplied the meal ticket when he majestically swooped down in the field next to me to claim his prize.

10 miles Sunday cool moon set with the sunrise.
4.5 miles Wednesday at lunch time through the nature trail.
5 miles Thursday still loving the moon an stars.

Ready for the first 1/2 marathon of the year for me this Sunday called Too Cold to Hold at White Rock Lake in Dallas Tx. .
It looks like it will be great weather for it.

That's very interesting, Songbird, and very cool about the kestrel skedaddle! Good luck to Runlite!

I'm trying to come out of my January rut, and things warmed up a bit which helped. Though I got a slow start.

Monday and Tuesday I stayed indoors, with my roadbike on the rollers, 20 miles total in 1:26.

Wednesday I couldn't squeeze in a barefoot run to the park, but had just a few minutes before picking my son up from school I put on my SoftStars and did 2 miles just down the road and back.

Thursday I got a normal run in 6.5mi barefoot on the rail trail.

Friday 2mi run down the road again, this time warm enough for barefoot. The grit had mostly been swept away but the road was still pretty darn rough.

Today a repeat of 6.5mi on the rail trail. It was 55F! Didn't even count for my winter mileage in January!

Tomorrow if it doesn't rain I am shooting for a long run, checking out trails for a potential ultra this spring. I haven't committed but still pretty exciting just contemplating it!

Oh and I did stairs at work Wed and Thur nights, bringing my January total to 571 floors up, and 711 floors down.

Just a gentle 2.75km for me this morning in a light drizzle past the usual flock of geese next to the lake. -They seem to have a very unique way of giving you a funny look as you run by them.
Apparently it was 3 deg C according to the thermometer, but it didn't feel that cold even with the wet ground.
Work's definitely been getting in the way of running for me recently, which is frustrating. Should hopefully be through it in the next week or so though -so it will be nice to get out more regularly again...

So I went to check out the trails of a potential 50k spring race... hoping to maybe do my first ultra! But the trail condition was worse than I thought so I'm not sure. I only went out about 3.5 miles and turned around there. Will go back again to check out more. But that 3.5 miles which will be the middle and the end of the race had lots of gravel. Some stretched 1/4 mile or more of small sharp stuff, and other stretches with big chunky walnut sized rocks. Not good. Oh and tons of mud. Some small hills were even difficult to get up my feet kept sliding! And despite the 50F temps the mud was still froze solid in spots (sharp and lumpy I may add) and much of it had a layer of slop and then frozen underneath. My feet were really cold!

Week total for running 22.5 miles. Also 20 miles on the bike rollers, and 2 days doing stairs at work.

Some pics from today's cold, muddy and rocky trail run

Nice trail Tristan, you might consider getting some foot coverings for the 50K race.
