Mileage reporting week 12 2015

Well I haven't chimed in in a while. February brought in a lot of snow around here and my bike paths were no longer runable. Roads were pretty miserable too, but I got out just a few times in minimalist shoes. And a few short runs on the treadmill. All in all my best mid winter I've had yet but still a big slump I fell into with weeks only averaging around 10 miles, and have lost some barefoot conditioning. I was able to get some miles on the XC skis, though I didn't get them out until it was nearly too late. 4 times out on the skis before it melted a couple weeks ago. Probably will see more of the white stuff again this month or next, but not enough to ski on or to dissuade me from running.

Last week got my first barefoot run in for over a month, 2.7 miles Monday and 7.3 on Sunday. This week 2.2mi Tuesday, which was my first after dayshift run of the year thanks to DST. Had Thursday off and got 6.5mi in after having a cavity drilled out of my tooth. Then today before nightshift dusted off the old Schwinn and logged my first 2015 mileage on the bike at 11.6 miles.

I'm signed up for a half next month, and the Capital City half 2 weeks later, both with Yvonne. I really wanted to rock Cap City this year, but I'm worried now that I'm just getting back at it with only about a month to go. I haven't done a speed workout since last summer, and haven't done double digit mileage since a 10 mile run Jan 19th. My initial plan was to run the first half with Yvonne at her pace and treat it as a training run and then the Cap City I'll go all out. I'll barely have time to ramp up to 13 miles, let alone train for speed. So I'm not sure I'll do all that well. And I don't want to fall into the trap of pushing too hard without proper training and then have issues that follow me all through summer. Seems that's whats happened the last couple years!

I have been very slack, so far only 58km for March, but I had a week off planned, and then fell sick, so this week is the first one for the month where I run regularly.

I just come back from a 16.1km/10mi now, and my HR is too high...I suspect I am still a bit heavy breathing from the cold I got last week.

Hopefully I will still manage more than 100km for the month, still 10 days to go !

A 5K run in the Spring sunshine today. Now that I am doing 1 mile time trials on the 'Dreadmill' at the gym during the week, I decided to take it slow around Tredegar Park this morning. I have to say it was much more enjoyable to just run at a leisurely pace, rather than always trying to push faster :)

5.4k this morning (where did that come from? -was only planning on doing around 4k..), so total for week of 9.9k.
Feet feel good now -don't seem to suffer from blisters or anything like that any more. Hope the temperature doesn't rise too quickly before the end of the month -still enjoying the Winter challenge!

Ran the Dallas Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon this morning.
Started at 8:00 am.
It had drizzled all night (so roads were wet) temp in the mid 50's humidity still high.
I felt good all the way through.
My feet were good
My legs were good
Cool bands and people watching was interesting.
Last run of the week for me with total miles 23.

I have enjoyed running so much more since changing to this basic approach. And, I find that I am getting faster slowly with more comfort and less injury!
