Mileage Reporting 43rd Week of 2014

8 miles today, very windy.
I've been continuing nose breathing, and now have started nose breathing in recovery, only a few weeks ago that wasn't possible for me, so i feel i'm making progress. I also found breathing through my nose far more comfortable in a strong head wind, something i used to struggle with in the past. :)

Here's a little snap of one of the cottages i passed today.

A fun 7 mile loop of the park with several thousand, nearly un-marshalled, charity walkers. Dodging and weaving through them seems to have kept me on my toes as it was one of my fastest circuits - and I didn't feel like I was trying! Cool and windy but not quite winter challenge worthy.

Most excellent 14.5 mile run at 6:00 am. Still dark for the first half of the run then a very nice sunrise.
I also saw the sliver of the moon (Cool)
60 deg. f. 71 % rh.
Saw 3 groups of ducks flying in V formation about 14 to 20 per group.

Hola everyone....been too busy to post but have been active...took a couple weeks off to learn how to walk properly again lol

I spent a couple weeks walking barefoot a couple miles a day practicing rolling the foot and getting toe splay retrained into my nuero-muscular memory.

Started running again after I was comfortable with my foot alignment and movement, but had to start slow...the sesamoid bones and associated tendons had to adjust to being in the right place after spending a lifetime moving in a distorted position from a shoe cramp mis-aligned big toe.

Also my arches needed re-strengthening.

Feeling much better now and have started building up miles again.

I signed up for my first 50 miler in in January, so time to get a move on :)

Sounds... interesting.

Lots of barefoot walking and some stair repeats today. Then, this evening I got in a straight 30 minute swim in my pool that felt really good. Spin bike easy tomorrow to try to give the thigh more time to recuperate from the marathon, but hopefully I can run a couple miles on Wednesday!

Yesterday, I went for a 12.9km/8mi run, not exactly very exciting, as I ran around the park near my home. It was sort of a tempo run, trying to keep my HR within a certain range. I managed to step on something sharp, now my left foot is a bit sore ! I am sure it'll be fine tomorrow

Hi Team Barefoot,

30 minutes at 119 average heart rate at lunch.

60 minute run at an average heart rate of 120 just before dinner.

Am Maffatone-ing it...wow it's slow.

Chlorine makes allergy season worse for me, too. It's pretty crummy, even though I flush out my sinuses after swimming. I use a nasal allergy spray, when it's really bad.

This is something far far worse. It never happened in chlorinated pools in michigan.
We are talking hives, swelled throat, days of misery, eyes puffy like they have pink eye. This time it is lasting for 2 full days. Dozens of nasal rinses.

The nearest saline pool is a little over an hour away. Boo hoo.

7 miles nose breathing, 5 miles 9-1o min pace, 2miles 8-8.5min fartlek.
A month ago i could only manage 12min pace at best, nose breathing, so i'm making progress. When i can hold 8min miles over distance i'll be happy but that's probably a few months off yet as i wasn't in top condition when i started this. :)

Here's a pic of my favourite road for speed work, holds many fond memories for me but to you i suppose it's just a picture of a road. :)

Nice job with the nose breathing.
Fine pic - I can still appreciate the "Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness"!

Three days in a row now running the Marshall-Franklin Bridge circuit down by the river. It occurred to me earlier in the week that if the daily 5K were to take hold, I would need a more motivating environment than my neighborhood. It gets really boring running through it all the time. So now I drive down to the river. I get to see the occasional other early morning runner in the dark, and on the bridges I get to view a more expansive geography, feel part of something bigger for a moment. The neighborhood trees sometimes feel claustrophobic in the dark. From the bridges I can see the river, of course, but also the commuters on the freeway, the lights on the downtown skyscrapers, and, vaguely some Native American traders down on the banks. I allow myself to run as slow as necessary, and walk when I feel like it. The only thing that counts is getting in the run. So far, the plan is working . . .

Hope you feel better Sced!

Congrats on the nasal niceties Ske! This morning incidentally my sinuses were inclementally too snotful to even think hopefully about exclusive nasal play. Normative orality was the only conducive morality available, so I conducted the air accordingly--centrally, ventrally, and banally.

7 mile run down to the junior collage and back at 5 am (nice 2 mile track around the campus).
The collage usually has some wild life in the area since it has a wooded creek on 2 sides.
Today I spotted some rabbits .
I was almost finished and a skunk came over a berm and started pacing me just ahead along side the path. Just then it started to move closer to the path and then it stopped and raised its tail and looked at me (I started backing up) luckily it dropped its tail and went back over the berm.
On my home stretch I spotted a opossum crossing the road ahead of me. It went behind a bush then down along side a concrete fence then climbed up an oak tree.
