Mileage reporting 14th week 2014

Somewhere in the first third of the run something caused the ball of my foot to slighlty crack.

There are some differences if its a cut, tear or crack. I've almost no cuts ever running but a few from inside my house...have had a few skin tears in the soft skin right in front of the ball of the foot behind the toes..these are from kicking the ground or roots. The only cracks have been from thick dry hard skin but thats been very very rare. So the exact location on foot should tell the cause actually.

Most excellent 5 mile run at 4:45 am tried nice and smooth (still going for flow). 66 deg. f. with a slight breeze.
I love running barefoot.
Heard a screech owl (have not heard one for a few months (happy to hear it).

am: 2.5 in very muddy sandals after navigating the dirt road in front of our house. Please, no rain. Let it dry.
Heard spring peepers in our wetland for the first time last night/this morning. Usually they are out and singing it up mid to late February, and I was beginning to think maybe they froze over and died.

lunch: 45 min swim

evening: 40 min swim

lots of sneezing in between. Can't figure out if it's another cold or allergies or both. Aaaaaaaachoooo

Coffee weenie here...i'm going to quit though when my coffee beans run out....should be this year or next.:D

HAH.
It's funny, I swear I can't live without it, but then some mornings I simply forget or don't get around to obtaining some, and I get by just fine.
Either way, I do get anxious when there are no beans in the house.

I think that possibly there was some underlying tissue damage from my race on the rough asphalt and that area was just more vulnerable to trauma of what would have previously been rocks of no account. I kept vaseline and a bandaid on it all morning and it already feels better. Will stay on confortable surfaces for a short run tomorrow!

I forgot to mention intense digging and leverage exercises to remove fence posts yesterday. Must have been taking it slow enough because I am not super sore today. Was tired though. Managed 30 minutes of swimming around lunch time today, then 60 minutes on spin bike next to hubby in the evening.

I'm that way anout chocolate...

Tuesday pm. 6.9 miles, 36F/26F windchill. Walked most of it. My legs were really stiff and the radiant heat was such that I could walk it no problem. 99% of the morning's snow had melted and most of the surfaces were dry. So 800 klicks on the Winter Challenge. Now that I've reached my meaningless goal, I feel stupid.

Wednesday am. Deadlifts and then one-mile run-commute at 22F/16F windchill. Wow, as Dutchie has noted, the radiant heat makes a huge difference. Surfaces felt cold this morning, although it was just 10F degrees or so colder than yesterday afternoon. Hit 305 x 1rep, 2 sets on the deadlift before pyramiding down. This max weight is just starting to feel reliable. Will probably be a month or two before I can do several reps comfortably.

Now my whole posterior chain is tightening up. Too much running lately. Gotta stretch the hammies. It's almost painful to sit in my chair.

I've used chocolate as a coffee substitute, but this time I'm going cold turkey. Fourth day, head feels pretty clear so far, perhaps the worst is over.

Chairs are like orthotics for our butts and hammies.

r.
No, not stupid! It's good and fun to have some goals that aren't mixed with the weightier stuff of life! [as long as you dont't cause yourself any serious damage ;-)] Congatulations!

Slapped some duct tape on that trouble spot and went for my run. Tape held up decently for 2 miles, then slowly worked its way off. However, I ran a little speedier overall than I have been for 5 miles, then thought I was done, started to walk the last bit around the loop, but found it was too slow, so ran in. :)

t-exercise in patience and posture as i drove my mom around town. she's afraid of crossing bridges and this is the "bridge city"
w-yog with the dogs and body weights.

anyone here read "Secret of Athleticism"? i came across it a few months back but at $100 for the book i passed on it. it's now $50 and $100 includes a video. i've watched the videos on youtube and he always references his book. making sure you have to buy it. the videos are quite bad too. look like phone videos and always with lots of background noise and never with good focus.

anyway i tried following his instruction of using your glutes for running. he also says to not let your heel touch the ground. i couldn't replicate that part. it's probably described in the book. i at least felt a difference when i ran. as far as i could.

anyone else experience it? should i make a new thread???
