Jingle Bell with my son

Ran a local Jingle Bell 5k race with my son Lukas (8).
It was his very first 5k race and he did great.
It was cold (18F) but dry. I put some paint on my feet, Lukas ran in his NB Minimus.
We finished in 26 minutes.

Wow! That's a great time for an 8 year old's first 5K, 26 minutes! All I can say is wow! Congratulate him for me, please? :singing:

As crazy as people are nowadays, I wonder how spectators might have reacted if your son was running barefoot. I could see someone being overzealous and calling Child Protective Services.

I believe most people are now better educated about benefits of BFR so nobody would probably care that much. A year ago Lukas did one of his kids half mile races barefoot and nobody really noticed. Granted, it was in spring and not in the freezing temperatures.

I am observing that you seem comfortable standing around at those low temps. Do you feel like cold tolerance came nsturally to you or would you mind giving a summary of what you have done to be able to do that?

I believe feet tolerance to cold surfaces comes naturally to anyone given enough time with gradually increasing exposure. I have not done anything else than using the common tips here on BRS http://www.thebarefootrunners.org/threads/winter-barefoot-running-–-is-it-for-you.12941/

So far it has been working for me.

Cute kid. Nice capture of his stride there too.

When my son and I would run barefoot together, we got looks, but when they saw our faces and how we were so happy and laughing sometimes, they would just smile too. I don't recall anyone saying anything. I miss those times with him so much. At least he is healthy and can still run.

Tj, what's hysterical?
That Dan went running by another BRS member and didn't even know he was there, from what you said. To me, that was funny.
