you finish out that last long run before your taper no matter what happens.

This was my sister-in-law's facebook post this morning: "I've experienced some really cool things while running, but being sprayed by a skunk 2 miles into a 20 mile run is definitely not one of them!"

Turns out my brother was also sprayed and then they finished the run out. At a fairly decent pace, they wanted to get home fast. So I feel bad for them, but a least now I'm not the "crazy" runner of the family anymore.

Saw a skunk last weekend at 0430 on an 18 miler.

Had my headlamp on but was "in the zone" and didn't notice the shadow in the middle of the road with the white stripe. Aimed his (could have been female, I wasn't about to check) furry little ass at me but didn't fire. Shocked me out of my zone and ramped my HR from 128 to 164!

whew...

But cool you have family members that run too, do you sometimes run together? Only other person in my family that ran was my wife's cousin's wife that was a marathoner but they got divorced about the time I started running.

Last year when we were all doing the same marathon, I joined them for a few of their long runs, and we do a lot of the local races together. Good thing we are not competitive with each other, I am ok with the fact that he always does better than me at any activity he picks up. I just have to stay ahead of him in new activities, so I can be first. I had 2 brothers and another sister-in-law pace me, each taking a shift, when I did my 100k. They really helped me out.

So my brother's bad luck continues, he was helping with our hay harvest and twisted his ankle getting out of a truck. One week before his marathon. It's feeling a bit better, but no PR this time.

Oh geez, hope his ankle is ok. Just curious, was he wearing work boots when it happened? I find now that bulky workboots can put a lot more force on the ankle, like a lever. Its ironic most people think they support the ankle, but honestly I think its the opposite. Thinking about a pair of those Lems boots when they come out with the black ones, but for some work I still want a more durable steel toed boot.

No, just regular shoes. I agree with you and I have only put on work boots twice this summer. No ankle problems for 3 years now. I used to sprain in a rodent hole at least twice a year. Yeah, I better enter that contest, thanks for the reminder.
