MAFF Training

Garmin forerunner 305. This is the one that I use and I really like it and it seems to be very accurate. The problem is it is a bit cumbersome sizewise, but I like that I can use it on my bike too so I don't have to have a different one for it. I bought the additional mounting hardware for the bike which was really pretty inexpensive. I like the amount of feedback I can have on the screen too as I hate trying to hit a button while running or biking. You can also set up interval training as well as routes or "ghost runner" as well on it.

i'm sure if you can handle wearing a bra you can handle a hr monitor. garmin has a lot of new watches out. touch screen with cool colors, much better than a big clunky out of production model someone else recommended. ^^^ :p

On the other hand, it could just be exponentially adding to my misery. But it sounds like I can wear something on the wrist? I'll look into it more.

or was it?

ditch the bra then. with the smoothness of running bf they girls shouldn't bounce, right?

wrist isn't as accurate as chest strap.

i need volunteers to study then. women only. no moobs.

This older model 305 is what I wear...it is good but very large and the battery time is limited if you want to do anything over 3 - 4 hours...its basically good for switching between Bike and Run for triathlon training. My next one will be smaller and just for running.

TBBETR? I just ordered the Maff Method on my kindle. I'm interested, but have always had the impression I have to wear a heart monitor, which I don't think I can deal with. I already know my heart can be erratic and monitoring it during a run might stress me out. I don't need to be more aware of it's irregular beats.

Wearing the heartrate monitor strap is no big deal at all...you will forget its there after a couple runs or so...the biggest issue with Maff is adjusting to a slower pace in the beginning. Its like paying your due's the first time around thru the base building phase...I wouldn't start it with any soon to be looming races.

I am just feeling pretty relaxed about everything right now. Also, I just read about 40% of the book today and am inspired. I don't want to feel like my knees hurt from landing too hard, though.

If you can handle erratic take a look at this!
I think I must have had a lot of cross-talk on the second half of today's run - there were a lot of runners out.

I guess I was thinking more in nursing terms, picturing it showing my arrhythmias, but it won't do that.

I don't think I have a strict Maffetone approach to training. I just do most of my miles at a low heart rate and gie it laldy when I want to. It seems to work fine as an approach!

I realised a good while ago that not everything can be done flat-out, all the time with any hope of continuing the activity indefinitely!

I've never looked for improvement in terms of doing MAF tests or whatever.

Good to know! Thanks so much for the input -
