17 April, 2013, it was a pleasant morning in Cincinnati. The usual routine at work. I had some extra time at lunch so decided to take a bit of a walk.

Headed down a rather steep pave slope from our building on my regular walking path on campus. About half way down this hill I passed a goose who noticeable did not want me there. ( stupid goose)

I watched him but really did not feel threatened by this annoying but harmless bird from our northern neighbors.

Must have been easily 10 yards past him when I turned to look and surprisingly observed him CHARGING me!

I was just out for a quiet walk at lunchtime.

Walking down this steep slope I turned - somewhat walking backwards - to kick at and shew this Canadian away. ( by the way, I was shod with steel toes shoes, which are required at my work).

Well, what do you know, I tripped over my own steel toed shod feet. Instantly, I felt the worst pain rushing through my nervous system that I had ever felt in my entire life! Stinkin' Canadian! Practically had to crawl back to my car while writhing in very serious pain.

After lying in my car for about 15 minutes, the pain subsided enough for me to drive my self to the emergency room.

Okay, this story is dragging on. As it turned out, I tore two ligaments full thickness and one partial in my right shoulder.

Now 3 months later, surgery on 8 May, 7 weeks in a sling and 5 weeks of therapy... I still can't lift my arm to adjust the volume on my car radio - least not without pain!

Stupid, stupid Canadians: go home!

Sorry to hear about your injury. Maybe if you would have taken your walk BF this wouldn't have happened...just saying ;-)

The goose was protecting a nest or it's babies. They have to make up a new saying similar to "don't mess with the bull or you'll get the horns". Was the goose shod, minimalist, or BF?

I was charged by an opossum once. He was in the middle of lovemaking, and he wasn't having it, well not from me anyway!

And speaking of geese, my family was camping a few years back. It was early in the morning, and the Canadian Geese were gathering. I took my two little boys and ran across the grounds with a loaf of bread. I began throwing bread out for the geese, and they hungrily ate it. Then it happened! I saw one of the geese rear up, flapping it's wings wildly! The other geese started backing away clearing a circle. Then it fell backwards ... And DIED! I will never forget it! The only thing I can think of is the bird choked on a bread piece. I will never, ever do that again! I drove to get the ranger. He came shortly thereafter. He said it wasn't a big deal, not to feel bad, that there was an overpopulation of Canadian Geese. I am still sick just thinking about it now.

My husband has a history of respiratory allergies. Once, we were walking along in a marina area near SF and he had to blow his nose. A whole gaggle of geese either took it to be a challenge or call of something and started flapping madly toward us. We proceeded to laugh hysterically and run for our lives!
