Unshoes Pah Tempe

Tristan,
If you want to send them back we'll move the toe strap over a bit for you.

Thanks, but I think they will be ok. I'll at least give em some more time before I send em back under the knife ;). We were on vacation all of last week and I wore them around for pretty much all week. Didnt notice the problem as much and the sandal isnt quite shifting so far anymore, at least I didnt notice the edge under my big toe anymore. Could be that they (or I) needed a little bit more break in time. I havent run in the recently but just walking around they performed great last week. Thanks again! Can't wait to get the PT's!

Tfox, would it be possible to cut mine down a bit? They're a bit wide, but with the straps coming so close to the edge, I wouldn't think it possible to narrow them without essentially starting over.

Sorry Bare Lee, I somehow didn't see your post here... Send me an email with pictures of your feet in the sandals and we can see what needs to be done. I'm sure we can figure something out. [email protected]

Tristan,
Sounds good. Let me know how the Pah Tempes work out for you!

I'm loving the Pah Tempes, they have become my go to footwear. I don't usually try to go bare in public so I wear the PT's out pretty much everywhere. Though I can wear the Feathers ok I definitely prefer the no between the toes strap of the PT. I havent run in them since I'm really liking being completely bare, but perhaps when I start doing more trails I will. And still toying with the idea of getting another pair in 10mm for more adventurous backpacking trips. But I may be done for the year in that department.

Just thought I'd share a pic:

A little bit dirty and wet after a short trail run but I figured a thread about them ought to include at least one picture.

Those look pretty good Tristan. Any updates? Are you still liking them? Thinking I am going to order myself a pair since I seem to be struggling with sandals with straps between the toes.

I do really like em, especially for just wearing out. I havent run in them a lot but have a few trails and also a few times on the road. They did pretty well on my local trail, and they do fine on the road but they are a bit on the thick side for the road. But no more so than most other mini shoes I have like my VFF's, and lighter duty than my Merrells with the trail soles.

Awesome, thanks Tristan! I went for a 5.7 mile run in my huaraches that have bedrock laces today and I got bad blisters in the webbing of my toes on both feet. I really hate the strap between the toes, so I think I am going to have to pony up for the Pah Tempes.

Wow, so I was going back through the old Pah Tempe thread because I seemed to remember somebody saying something about the way the laces are tightened or loosened can make them fit better when I came across your picture. Holy cow yours fit so much better than mine do. I have a considerable more amount of excess off the sides and front. Like I actually quit wearing these shortly after buying them because of it. I broke them out today so I could see if I would be able to make them useable for tomorrow, but I didn't have a lot of time for modifications. I'm not going to be able to use them unfortunately, even though it's just out to the coast while clamming. Just way too much excess that I would have to cut away, not to mention I would have to take the laces off in the process and then would have to sew them back on (I do all sewing by hand so this is quite the chore for me). I really wish I would have had Terral cut these closer for me, but I wouldn't dare ask him all this time later after I purchased them. Maybe after finals are over I will find more time to work on these. They really would be great sandals if it wasn't for all the excess.

Well that sucks Nick, as I think they are great!

When it comes to mail ordering custom made sandals, based on hand tracings, there is chance of sizing errors. Unless Terrell himself measured our feet in person and discussed the fit, this will always be a potential issue unfortunately.

I'm planning on ordering another pair because these ones are a bit small. They are great for running or just casual wear, but sometimes my toes come over the front edge. I want to use these on more rugged trails for hiking and backpacking, but want a bit more toe protection and maybe a bit more on the arches too. But for running, these are perfect.

It's my fault Tristan. I kept reading that they will shrink up a bit as they are used and to not cut them and so I listened despite my strong inclination that there was too much excess... They haven't shrunk. I did end up using them today after all but they really scooped the hard pack sand big time. I'm drying them out and will mess with them later this week. Just an idea of how big they are, my custom Lunas fit inside the laces flat except for the heel (which it barely hangs up on the laces. I took a picture of them on my feet but I havent had a chance to downsize it so I can upload it on here.

Ok so for comparisons sake, here's Tristans picture that I quoted. Mine is below. As you can see, hell of a difference... Not sure if I will even be able to get them cut down enough due to the straps. I guess if nothing else, I do really like the sole material and there is enough of it that I can take the laces off and cut out my normal pattern and put a toe hole and then add traditional type laces.

Hey Nick. Looks like you could safely trim some off the front and then bevel the lower edge and they won't catch on things. I would say that's about the right amount you want on the sides. After a while, the sides will come up a little. Still, in my experience the sandals do shrink, but I live in a very dry environment and it takes some time. Yours still look brand new.

NickW, send them back and I'd be happy to adjust them for you! P.O. Box 1411 Cedar City, UT 84721. Or if you really want them to shrink, you can heat them up to about 150° F and then let them cool but they will shrink in all directions.

Ya, I've only worn them maybe 40 miles'ish or so total. When I had gotten them was during our rainy season and they worked well as flippers when running through all the flooded stuff here. Meaning they actually had a ton of drag because of all the excess and would have made great flippers had I been swimming. I will trim them up myself and hopefully I will be able to get them just right.

Thank you Terral for the offer. I will cut them myself and hopefully get them just right. I don't think it was any fault of yours at all and in such I don't think you should have to take time out of your business day to do it. Thank you though for the offer. I do really love the lacing system on these and want to make these work for me.

Sounds good. I recommend using a good utility knife with a new blade. Try to cut them with one smooth motion. If you have a sander, you can lightly sand the tread on the front edge and that will keep them from catching. In general, if you wear them for about a week then the tread on that front edge will wear down.

Thanks Terral. I have a pair of heavy duty scissors that I typically use when making my own sandals so I will use them when cutting these. They are easier to use and maintain control of and cut straight lines. I also do have a sander and usually sand the outer edges of my homemade sandals to make them cleaner and more professional looking.

I loved, past tense, Tevas.

Since I've made the transition to BF, I live in Vivo Ras for work, BF for road, VFF for trails, Merrell Road Glove for kick around, Altra Superiors for extreme technical stuff.....

Anyway, I own Xeros, which are OK, but I'm not always looking for that level of proprioception, and there's the manliness factor.. So every time I put on my Tevas, the heel drop kills my knees.

That was a long way to go to ask.....
Is the pah tempe the solution? Are they stiff enough to be a replacement for the classic teva? Would you, have you included the cork footbed? What did you think?

Are you guys who were happy with them years ago still happy?

I just got mine. They are a tiny wee bit small though... like my big toe on the right is kind of past the edge, but no issues when I walked yesterday. But I like 'em so far....

Edit: it actually looks similar to how Tristan's fit his feet so I think it's a good sign :)
