Can you believe someone would stop at 1AM in the morning on a dark road to offer someone running barefoot down the highway a ride? Makes no sense. He deserves to get mugged. And if I had gotten into the truck with him, I would have deserved what I might have gotten. Just another example of how dangerous this type of running can be. This is why I got a Weapons Carry License. You just never know who you might "run" into. Don't believe me?

Google "Emmanuel Fitzgerald Hammond" and or "Julie Love" You will see what I mean! Julie Love was on her way home from a business meeting the "night" of July 11, 1988, when she ran out of gas in her 1983 red Mustang convertible, and "started walking". And what did Emmanuel Hammond offer Julie Love that dark night before raping and killing her? A ride of course. Do you want a ride he asked her?

This is why women do NOT want to run out of gas late at night on a dark road. NEVER EVER let this happen to you.

In my case he first slows down and dangerously blocks a lane of a dark highway, then pulls over onto the side of the road I am on to partially block my path, all to offer me a ride? Okay then, Roll D@mn Tide!

Ermmm, yep I can believe that. Personally I wouldn't expect to see anyone running at that time of night & can understand people thinking he may need help, thankfully there are people out there who are nice enough to put aside personal risk & offer help when they perceive it's needed. Obviously others don't have such good motives - I like to assume the best scenario but be prepared for the worst.

+1. The way this man acted is the way I was raised to act. I hate that since moving to Oregon I have had to "turn off" my kindness and not stop when seeing a car broke down or seeing someone needing help. Instead I or my wife will call help for them. It's not the way I was raised and it's a very cold way of living and treating others. I hate it and honestly, I don't see the problem in the guy asking if the person needs a lift or help. I know a lot of folks think that is stupid, my wife being one of those, but if the rest of the world showed a little more compassion this way maybe the world would be a little bit better of a place. Instead we think everyone is bad and so we often turn a blind eye and ignore folks in need, because they "might" be bad.

Ha, your post reminds me of situations I've been in that would no doubt horrify some; I've had a stranger change a wheel for me on a deserted beach access road, held a guy's shotgun while he got down onto the frozen field I'd just skidded my car into to check underneath for damage, drunk coffee in a stranger's kitchen while waiting for the breakdown truck, helped drunks up from the middle of the road... On the other hand, I did once say no to the offer of a lift at 4 in the morning, despite thinking it may have been genuine it wasn't a risk worth taking.
I just act on instinct & if that's a risk then it's one I'm willing to take, accepting the kindness of strangers (or at the very least accepting that they are motivated by kindness) can make your day. I also believe it's this attitude that means I have interesting conversations with strangers, whereas friends complain of being hassled.

My buddy runs to one of his jobs and such a lot and has been offered rides a few times. I certainly would be cautious, but in our area it is kind of normal.
One time I was running in the country at about 4:30 AM or 5 and had to do a 2. Just then, a car drives by, so I try to just stand there. They drive down the road. I sit and wait, thinking, Go! Go! And they turn back and it was an older couple asking if I needed help. No, just standing around here with dirty TP...

if I saw someone running down the highway at 1am I would think something was wrong, because it's not the norm. at the same time if the dude is wearing standard running attire like shorts and a tshirt I would be more inclined to say he is a runner. but running on the side of a highway at 1am is pure stupid in my book.. people are normally asleep at those hours, and many tend to fall asleep behind the wheel. carrying a gun won't stop you from getting hit by a drunk driver, but at least the obvious dumbass in the video carries one for protection while being a fool
