Need some help regarding the new Lunas

So I am looking for some new sandals just for everyday use (not running), and I was going to get the Luna Original with the leather upper. It turns out Luna has changed the name of the sandal (Venado) and then also changed the type of leather that they use (now a pittards leather). The picture kind of looks like it is one of those leathers that is kind of like a pleather, if you know what I mean. I was hoping they still had the old leather style they used to have. I could just use the sandals I have already that are naked top, but I am planning on only using those for running because my feet sweat a lot when in direct contact with rubber. It actually gets kind of gross and distracting with how much my feet sweat when on rubber when just sitting in class or driving or what have you. In any case, I just had to throw out my old huaraches that had a leather upper because they had finally wore out completely after a couple years. Anybody know how this new leather they use wears and if it causes a lot of sweating like rubber? (Not sure if this makes sense to you all, but I just hate to pay Lunas premium + prices for something I won't be happy with if their new leather makes the foot sweat like rubber does)

P.S. They also have new ribbon laces (for traditional lacing method) which I am totally stoked about and am going to order a pair for my current sandals.

Pittard's leather is so far from being pleather as to be not worth worrying about!
I have several pairs of gloves that have some in them and they all feel great. I seem to recall that I was told that the Pittard's is way better than there old suede when wet but still nothing like as good as there new MGT decking.

My concern is sweat factor. The mgt makes my soles sweat as does naked top. I was worried about this new leather doing the same thing as it is more water resistant than the suede leather.

From their site:
The Pittards High Performance Leather footbed adds comfort, helps your sandals form to your feet, and absorbs some moisture. The MGT footbed is still the ultimate in wet weather running, however the Pittards footbed offers a natural and beautiful looking alternative.

I think they'll be fine - but I can only speak for my feet!

I've just seen on their site that, if you want to go DIY, you can still get a suede footbed.

Thanks Chris. I guess I will have to give it a try.

Oh, and does anyone else ever have problems with the Originals and slipping on certain floors, like say at the grocery store? I have to be super careful in mine as they are a little slick.

Never with the rubber sole - sometimes with the suede upper when it is soaking wet.

I don't mean the foot sliding in the sandal, but the sole of the sandal sliding on the floor. Maybe mine just needs to be broken in more... It's nothing terribly bad, just worse than other sandals for grip on certain surfaces, such as when at the grocery store in my case.

It's Portland nick. We have a level of wetness that few can comprehend. I've slipped on hard floors in all manner of 'non-slip' soles in this town. You need suction cup soles around here!

I was sitting here shaking my head in agreement as I read this, and then I realized, hey wait a minute, Tim is from up north, in Warshington. :D

Vantucky is practically North Portland at this point. At least until the i5 bridge collapses and no one can still come to an agreement on a replacement!

Plus, if I say 'I live in Vancouver, WA' to folks back home, they all think I'm in Canadia. I just round my answer up to Portland to make things easier.

Nick,
shoes or rubber, nothing makes your feet sweat. they do that naturally. you probably notice it more as it pools up on the rubber. Luna got rid of the suede because it got slick when wet. this new leather is goat leather and is not only supposed to be the softest on the market but dry faster than normal or cheap leather and stay or get softer instead of drying or cracking. wow. that was a long run on sentence.

don't think i've had a problem with my lunas slipping on any floor but i can't remember what i did yesterday so, anywaya. i do own a pair of the skora forms that use pittard leather. i've ran in the 3x now. the leather is comfortable but i can't talk about how fast they dry out since i've only wore them for my bike commute to school and short runs. oh, and out and about a couple of times.

you know i take off my sandals when in class or somewhere i don't need them. i also notice the sweat with them on for extended periods plus just sitting there the lacing gets to me. don't get grossed out by going to public bathrooms bf either. survival 101, urine is sterile and safe to drink. if there's poop on the floor, well you have the advantage of using trees and bushes easily. :p

Ya Mike, I figured it was more the pooling aspect and not really the causing of the sweat. That's really why for just everyday sandals and not running sandals I wanted to add the leather and make them more comfy for all day use. Maybe I'll just order some of the suede Chris mentioned and also get those new ribbon laces and maybe I'll get some of the trail nubby soling material and make them myself.

Just purchased a pair of the originals (Venado)...that confused me for a second....used the survey discount and got 20% off.
Still pricy but I've been looking for quite some time and am usually pretty impressed with Lunas.
Went with the MGT footbed however. Doubt I will use these for running except on really cold days next winter.
Hope I don't regret the MGT instead of leather for a "casual" sandal....worse comes to worse I jut have to get another pair :woot:.........in a few years...haha

Survey discount? Where'd you get that? That would get me in a pair of venados with the leather...

I did a survey some time back and it generated a survey code good through April...I'll try to find it again, not sure if they are still running this deal.
