and after our run last Saturday. The temp was 4f. Don't feel sorry for him, the icicles are from him constantly sticking his nose in the snow.

going strong! :D

How far do you two run? We were out for a 10-miler yesterday, including a tough climb up a bigass hill to a Medeival signal tower. And the last couple Km were in an ice-storm - GREAT!

Ice storm, you're hard core!!

We usually do 5 or 6 miles on the weekend and 3 or 4 during the week.

Border Collie/Black Lab mix? My friends have one (which it's sort of mine judging how he responds to me) named Booda (or Boo Boo's, as he's sometimes called). Looks like Jet, though he has a white chest and - as of late - some white around the muzzle (Booda is 9 y/o). We used to try and wear him out by playing ball with him...only after it was too late we realized we were not wearing him out, but building up his endurance :D 'course, nowadays, he still has his speed, but his endurance is offstep...and he's sore afterwards (it's hell getting old, no?) :)

Jet is border collie/lab. He's only a few months over 2 years old so there's no tiring him out. He also has some white on his chest but it doesn't show much in the pictures. He loves to run and loves to play in the snow even more. Lately he's been enjoying rolling in snow drifts and he puts his nose in the snow as we're running if he's on leash. He has a great personality. He's very active but happy to snuggle too.

And PB Junkie's Jet is our pet too!:)

I need to get a dog. Don't care what kind either, as long as he/she ain't an ankle biter.
I highly recommend checking out an inmate dog program through your local shelter. I got Jet through the Inmate Dog Alliance Program of Idaho. Jet spent two months at the prison being trained by inmates, supervised by a professional dog trainer. We adopted him when he graduated the program. He was trained in regular obedience (sit, lay down, stay, kennel, come, etc.) and a few fun tricks like shake, high 5, play dead.

Its a great program that benefits the dogs and the inmates.

Found this. Looks like a great program, and they seem to have some great dogs. Office is not far from me either. Thanks for the heads up. I would've never thought to even consider this if you hadn't told me about it.

Wow, that is really a fantastic idea! I know the prison in Bayreuth has a lot of programs and you can buy things there cheaply (at their award-winning gardening center for example), and there are a few large, active animal shelters in the area. I don't know if they work together but I guess I could suggest it.

I lost one of my running buddies last night. Wife and I with her when she went to sleep. 8 year old black GSD- Majyk - who loved to nibble on gold (14 karat or above!) bracelets, platinum and diamond rings or gold bracelets. One week ago she was reluctant on a morning run. I knew something was wrong. Over a week she stopped eating and lost weight. Splenic tumour the size of an orange that was not detected until after she had been sedated for an ultrasound. Ironically because she was fit and her muscles strong - hid the tumour from palpitative exams by two vets for two days! Now I feel like an idiot for not picking up on subtle signs earlier. It hurts. Enioy your time with your 4 footed buddies guys - it ends way too soon!

I'm so sorry for your loss Ronnie! We have an older greyhound who I know won't be with us for that many years... I just hope it is that long.

Sorry to hear that, Ronnie. I know how painful it is.
