running barefoot after total hip replacement

Just wondering, but why not completely barefoot?

As far as "doing it right" is concerned, I'd recommend therunningbarefoot.com Its very informative.

Welcome. Running barefoot first will help you find your correct form and possibly answer the questions you have. When you can listen to the ground with your feet, you will be better able to feel, not only where to step but how to step.

Thanks all for the feedback. I wanted to get a full three miles in today so I started in my shoes in order to get to the soccer fields where I could then go barefoot. I'm going slow like you said. I hated being in my shoes-my toes felt squished and my shoes felt like lead. I couldn't believe the noticeable difference this early on. I was even MORE surprised when I went completely barefoot on the grass. The feeling was amazing! My balance and overall feel is improved and I dreaded putting my shoes back on to go home.

I'm going to practice on the fields more and split that with the paved trail that runs beside it.I felt it much more today in my feet, calves, and lower back. Is that normal? I would say I ran for about 7 minutes or so.

Were any of you anxious about running barefoot? I don't know why I am but I feel nervous and unsure about this whole transition. Maybe it's because I'm by myself right now. I'm trying to find others in my area. It sure has been a conversation starter though. Do you think more people will catch on to running barefoot?

Thanks,

Rebecca
