I did a small study last year on my 6hrs race at Sladki vrh. Using great and extensive photo material I manage to compare foot landing between runners in running shoes and myself, running in Feelmax, minimalistic shoes.
Intersting patterns was found: almost every shod runner land ther feet on the ground with their heels. Wearing minimalistic shoes (that simulates barefoot) this immediately changes - runner contact the ground with whole foot, using natural pronation and cushioning.
If age, speed and experience of a runner have no impact on foot landing, not even different shoe brands and models (that all have thick cushoning in common) - than is something wrong with shoes!
As experts finaly know and preach: landing on your heels is wrong and cause different injuries of legs and feet (runners knee, PF, bunions, broken achilles t...). last two or three decades we saw rise of running shoe industry, but injury rate among runners didn't drop - it even become higher every year.
Running in shoes forces you to land on your heels, therefore your balance is hurt, your knees and ankles are under atack. Your step is longer and not faster, but slower (you inhibit speed with your heels). Barefoot running in other hand automaticaly forces you to shorten your step, quicken your cadence, to become more gentle using natural cushioning and pronation.
If you don't believe me, try it for yourself! Take of your shoes and run short distance barefoot, watching your legs and feet adopting new technique. Interesting, right?
Our legs and feet are suffering in heavy shoes. Let them free!
Happy running
