Balboa Park - San Diego

It's not that I don't miss living in San Diego, it's a really cool city that doesn't feel like a city. The weather is perfect for barefoot running. I just wish that more people could understand that they live in such a beautiful place. When I come back here to visit, the lack of small courtesies really hits home. Of course, all of you who are lucky enough to live in So Cal are friendly and relaxed - barefoot running helps stave off the negative nancys right?

After nursing some PF since we were in Mexico three weeks ago, I decided to go out for a run in Balboa Park this morning. If ever a place was made for running with naked feet, this is it. I envy everyone from the SD chapter of the BRS. Yes, you need to dodge the odd Eucalyptus pod, but gee, that's nothing to complain about. I showed up at about 10.00, found excellent parking and started off across the Prado bridge. I usually run in huaraches but decided to carry them, wow. I ran for about 35 minutes, which isn't much I know, but if you (and likely many of you have) felt like your running life had flashed before your eyes with IBS and PF, you know how great it is to have a run that feels so good. I rounded the goldfish pond near the botanical garden and listened to a great flutist who was playing to beat all (and just for me I'm sure!) and smelled the roses on the other side of Park (ave, blvd, st?). A celebratory run around the fountain and back across the bridge. I had my first BFR comment from a couple mounted on segways. hmmmfh, I waved after hearing something that sounded like "barefoot running craze" trailing out of their mouths. One fellow did pass my by, I heard him clomping along behind me, he was trim and fit but I felt badly that he was laboring along with those heavy boxes on his feet.

I could have run forever. I am a barefoot runner. . .

Can't wait to hit the roads back home. It's too cold for no huaraches but, whatever. Does anyone know if you can put duct tape on your feet? I'd like to know if you've had good results.

I so miss Balboa Park in San Diego. I practically grew up in that park...and at the beach. I used to ride my skateboard, skates, and bike all throughout that park's paths. I even broke my collarbone there when I was between 6 and 7 years old on a giant barrell ride at one of the playgrounds. I absolutely love that place! Thanks for taking me back there again! Andyes, those San Diegans sure are spoiled! ;-) -TJ
