5k Race Report From Yesterday...... and Wasted Marketing on ME!

Yesterday April 27th, 2013 - The whole family and I participated in the "Walk/Run for Wishes Southern Tier 2013" for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central NY. The event was a 5k run or walk. My 9 year old daughter and I participated in the run and the rest of the family completed the walk.

We participated in this event for all the Make-A-Wish kids past, present and future and for our very own Make-A-Wish kid in our family, our oldest son, who had his wish granted last summer.

So the race - Start time 9am-ish. The official time keepers for the event "Triple Cities Runners Club" posted the temp was 35f and sunny. I think that might have been the temp at the start, although my Garmin had the temp at 45f and 53% humidity (at least that is what it picked up from the local NOAA weather station). I'm wondering if the Garmin was reporting the end of the run temp... oh well, doesn't matter.

I ran barefoot of course and managed a new PR - 22:40 and am actually happy with that given the elevation ups and downs, love the down hills. I managed to place 19th. The course was all road for the most part, I managed to find a couple of dirt and grassy areas along the way that gave the bottoms of my feet a break. The pavement wasn't exactly smooth the whole way.

My daughter took her age group, well she was the only female running it at the age of 9 with a time of 38:07. After I finished I back tracked until I came across her and ran to the end with her and then waited for a good friend that was also running the race with us. Then we waited for the rest of the crew, well I travelled the route again to find my wife and our 3 boys as the youngest no longer wanted to walk.

Unfortunately for photos..... well I don't have many, I gave my middle son my GoPro Hero 2 to take photos and my daughter had my cell phone "just in case". So here is what I have for photos.

So that's the run, now for the Wasted Marketing,

I feel so special because of it..... I got a flier in the mail this past week advertising May is National Runners' Month. I think there may have been a page total of items I might have been interested in, everything else was sneakers, running shoes, running sneakers, pairs of feet straight jackets, lockdown and run foot coverings or what ever else you might want to call them. Not a whole lot of min-shoes, I think I saw a few pair.

I don't know why I just got a kick out of it, they completely wasted all that marketing on me and I loved it. I loved it so much I went through and counted how many runners appeared to be jamming their heels into the ground first. I think I counted about 1 for each page in the ad, maybe a little less.

Here is a link to the weekly flier if any of you want to play count the heel jammers...... http://dickssportinggoods.shoplocal...ioncode=DSG-130424RUN&fsid=130116580367178415

Well till the next run or I feel like writing,

Kevin
