Any way you look at them, Jake Brown's feet are wicked tough.

Shoeless since departing Huntington Beach, California, in early March, Brown has run eastward across mountains, through deserts, on sandy trails and along concrete interstates.

Against the relentless pounding — sometimes 40 miles a day or more — the soles of his feet have become thick, hardened calluses. They've deflected broken glass and sharp stones and turned deep brown from constant exposure to the sun.

On Tuesday we caught up with Brown, 27, in Carthage on his way to Springfield Wednesday, where he is more than halfway through his "Bare Sole Project" — running barefoot from California to New York to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund to help injured veterans. Any BRSers care to research where he may be and determine if you can run with him? He's had some people join him here and there to run, but none have been barefoot.

Absolutely! I have been tracking him since his injury in Springfield. He is in Wildwood this evening and has plans already for the evening and starting back up tomorrow. I believe he will be staying through the weekend as the STL Runners Meetup group is hosting a get together with him at the Central West End ITAP at 3pm on Saturday August 1st.

I will keep everyone posted and be sure to have my GoPro along to get some footage if I get some miles in with him!

I found him! I met up with him twice while he was in the area. Once for a run along Hwy 100 and then again for some beers on his weekend "off" day. I say "off" as he still went out and did 5 mile race in Washington MO on his day "off". He was amazing! I captured some of the run on video. Take a look:

I would love to see what the BRS could do to help support his cause. Any ideas?

Here are the charities that he is supporting and his message:

His amazing journey is to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund and donations will be greatly appreciated. We're working on putting together some raffles and other fundraising activities so please bring some extra cash to help out.

Cool, cool, cool! Very cool! I didn't catch...did you mention that you are the Missouri Chapter President for the BRS? Did you find his location through his links? Did he know you were coming to meetup with him? Just curious.

Everyone, please feel free to donate to the Semper Fi Fund. My hubby is a former Marine as well.
