During the dictature of Salazar it became forbideen to go barefoot,
even poor people had to pay a fine if they were walking on the "via publica"

Many reasons for that, the main one is the will to become a "civiliezd" country

one more proof that shoes are a jail for the mind

I dont know if the law still exists,
but I know that until last year it was still forbidden for women to wear pants in the streets of Paris !!

And the feet as well. You always come up with good stuff, Sly.

I had no idea women couldn't wear pants in Paris. What changed?

I've only scooped him once or twice in ten years!

Well, it was a left over and mostly forgotten law from napoleonic or revolutionary times. In fact women are wearing pants in Paris since I don't know when - perhaps second World War? Or 1968? Anyway, nobody did anything to prevent women wearing pants in Paris even before the official abolition of this antique law last year. :)

Kind of like sodomy laws here. It can be done with impunity, for the most part (unless it's the president with his intern) and now even enjoys the sanctity of marriage in many states. Yet technically it is still unlawful in the majority of our states, if I recall correctly.

In Georgia, last I read, it's against the law to commit adultery.

As I found out, it's against the law to go shirtless in Barcelona. A cop waited for me to return from a run (someone in the neighborhood called him?), then gave me the gruff run around. He didn't know what to do about my bare feet, though apparently that wasn't against the law. Yet.

Ridiculous but funny somehow. Stupid laws!
