    So here we go.

Anyhow, I did some running Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Longest was 4.5 miles on Saturday. I couldn't push things very long because I was still recovering from the virus that had knocked me down pretty good earlier in the week.

Saw some crocuses on Saturday's run and that inspired first to go back to my car and get the cellphone to take pictures. Then later in the evening I put together another one of my odd sort of blog posts about things I think about and see because of running barefoot. Crocuses near the flooplain if you want to take a peek at the rantings of a madman.

We got 3 cold days of weather to start this week. Then it sounds like spring might finally arrive and stick for the most part. About time. Such a long winter.

10.1 miles, felt like a breeze except for the last mile or so, so I think it was good to stop. Got asked by a teenage fisherman why I was running barefoot after he had seen me go by a few times. He got the usual explanation and what mile I was on. He gave me a thumbs up next time around. Lots of other friendly people there today. One teasing gentleman told me if I'd just figure out how to run in a straight line, I'd have been miles away by now. :p Even "ran across" someone I had met at a barefoot race last fall, but he wasn't running there. Came to go fishing. Ended up talking with his wife some, who has never tried running barefoot at all.

    Sunday:
4mi run in socks and sandals in about 14F, toes were cold into the wind, fine once I turned away from it. Switched to moc3s for
1.5 trot around the block with the kids. Had to bribe them, but they did it without whining.
    some weights, some abs
about 1hr20 min in the lap lanes, half the time with the kids. Fun.

    Monday:
30 min at the gym, including 1 mi in socks around the square track, then some weights.
lunch swim, about 50 min, long interval to start, then lots of kicking.
evening: another 45 min at the gym, 20 min elliptical, a few more weights.
    Done for the evening.

Sunday: went for a walk and end up going 15km in my merrells. It was too hot for me to take them off.
Monday: sat at my desk all day and hardly moved. I need to stop that.

Well, no real running for a while. I seem to have hurt my calf this past weekend while sprinting to my car to try to catch up to my father in law (he was hauling my wifes new treadmill for us and I wanted to stay behind him in case anything happened). I felt a pop and then searing pain. Still kinda hurts right now to walk on when I go up or downstairs so I imagine I got another week or two or more till I can start trying to run again. Our new treadmill does have some pretty cool features so I may see if I can do some walks on it without hurting myself later this week. Am also working on getting the garage cleaned out a bit so I can start using my weights again for ST. I am going to revamp my whole ST workout and am going back to more basic exercises and mobility plyo stuff.

2 miles yesterday shod, 2 km today STG in -18C. But as they would say, it was a dry cold. :) The sun does a great job warming up the dry roads. A quick side note it would seem that Barefooting Bob is getting speaking engagements about his adventures. The MRA (Manitoba Runners Association) is having its Hall of Fame dinner and Bob is a featured guest speaker. Go Bob go, represent us well. Here is the link for registration for anyone who wants to come out and take in the event. https://www.registrationlogic.com/secure/Register.aspx?E=902

Why the extra 5 miles after the race?
No comments good enough for print?

    Laura
The answer is 2 fold My training schedule was called for 18 miles and my wife also did the 1/2 (at a slower pace so I back tracked to support her)(her first 1/2).
I was very proud!!(thanks for asking)

Ran 5 miles this am at 5:00 funky moon. 48 deg. f. calm (slight wind) saw one rabbit had a good time!

About a 20 minute walk barefoot on the treadmill. Feet got pretty black. My calf was fine but I didn't push it. I did part of the Cape Town Africa program which had an incline of 12.5% which even walking was pretty tough, can't wait till I can run again as that should be a pretty satisfying program as far as treadmill running goes. Kimd of cool because the screen shows pictures of where you're walking, street view.

Getting in a late ride on the spin bike while hubby rides next to me plugged into a business meeting somewhere on the other side of the globe. I also did about half an hour of heavy duty weeding and then got to pkant my new strawberry plants.

2.5 miles home last night, running beside my wife (who was on her bike), after a birthday dinner, in office clothes, wearing a down jacket and Vivo barefoot Gobi's!

    That was quite different!

3 miles on the square indoor track in me little socks. Can't believe I made it that many times around (27) without dying of boredom.
Then a good 45 min or so on weights, but had to lighten up for sudden sneezing fits (cold acquired from my son), and nausea (not sure why). Got through it though, and my stiff neck from poor sleep and not being on the floor was better for it.

AM one-mile run-commute, 6F/2F windchill, then some midmorning Plyo & Mobility, then PM 3.1-mile run home at 22F, no wind.

    M 3/24/2014
AM 3.8 mi run, 11F no wind, then it snowed but melted in time for my one-mile run-commute home, except for a few spots with shadow. Then deadlifts. I failed at 285, my stomach was a little gurgly, but I think it was mostly the extra running I’ve been doing catching up to me, and/or a lack of concentration. Redeemed myself somewhat with several sets of 265 x 4.

    TU 3/25/2014
AM: one-mile run-commute, 8F/-15F windchill (-13.3C/-26.1C), a new coldest barefoot run PR, even if the wind didn’t really feel that bad until I was halfway there, out of my neighborhood. It was really bad crossing the bridge over the railroad yard. I musta been going 8mm pace, and out in the middle of the road to avoid all the debris on the sidewalk.

PM: great chest and arms workout, then stopped in fairgrounds, on my way to daycare and new Total Wine retailer to pick up Tristan’s Chillwave rec, for 5 miles of back-n-forths at 23F/10F windchill. Street surfaces are bone-dry now. Just a few miles shy of 700 Winter Challenge klicks. Going to try for 750.

    W 3/26/2014
AM: one-mile run commute at 10F/2F windchill. Very sore from Tuesday’s ST, could barely lift my arms. The forecast for Thursday is rain and/or snow, and my brother offered to pick up our toddler on his way in from the airport, so I blew off the afternoon ST and went on the same 11.2-mile long run down by the river I did last Thursday, at 38F/27F windchill. Stopped to walk and stretch several times. Very pleasant, although patches of moisture were still challenging.

When I got home, it was still warm enough to walk .4 mi down to my daughter’s school with my son to pick her up. The kids there got a real kick out of my bare feet. Of course they asked about glass, I asked them why didn’t wear helmets in case they bump their heads. That got them thinking. One kid waited to see me walk outside on the slushy snow. My daughter decided to take off her shoes too, but then thought better of it after a minute or two. She’s got no adaptation, but I like her spirit.

Did my rows and landmines after a sashimi dinner with my brother, but wasn’t up for hyper extensions while still digesting. Then a bottle of Chillwave while my daughter read Dr. Seuss.

    TH 3/27/2014
AM woke up at 2pm. My legs felt pretty stiff, and it’s a balmy 39F/28F windchill so I set out walking instead of running. This felt good, so I took a left and walked up through the fairgrounds and then back down Como while listening to field recordings, jogging here and there, and got in another 3.8 miles to pad my Winter Challenge mileage. I’m really getting tired of keeping track of temps and windchills. Kinda goes against my recent 'no numbers' approach. I wonder if I'll ever be brave enough to stop keeping track of mileage. Wait, then I'd have no reason to participate here, would I?

It’s supposed to start raining soon. Rain means it’s spring, right?

The walking really helped loosen up my legs, so maybe I’ll try some box jumps later. Then squats and maybe my shoulder stuff too this afternoon. I’m experimenting with rolling the shoulder st into one of my other st sessions so that I’ll have two days off on the weekend, one for long run, and one for plyometric/mobility stuff. It’s just too hard to get in a good lift on weekends with the kids around. I can do the long run early in the morning when they’re still asleep, and the plyo stuff if I go to my office. I’ve attached yet another revamped workout routine. I like the greater simplicity of this one.

been meaning to say, you've been seriously getting back "into" it, haven't you?
Check out your mad miles and ST.
Thanks for letting me live vicariously while I plot my path to back on track.

The weather had me really down for a while for running, but the ST, as you've said, is a good feeling in its own right.
    Keep it all up.
