Join Rae Heim as she completes Rae's Run across America .. barefoot (mostly)
By Barefoot Ken Bob Saxton

Soles 4 Souls is planning a big celebration at the end of Rae’s Run across America at the Manhattan Beach Pier on Wednesday morning starting at 10:00 AM. There will be lots of cool, and very important people at this event (I can’t even tell you all who will be there because some of them are a secret … shhh!)

Rae Running across America is a HUGE deal for barefoot runners. She has run most of the way barefoot, she will be the youngest person ever (not just barefoot) to run across America. She may be the first person to run barefoot across America. And she's also a female running solo! (no support team following her in an R.V., no police escort, just a few friends who occasionally come out and run with her, or meet her at her finish point for the day, and give her a ride to where she is staying, and back again to begin the next day's run."

I think only a few places with nasty gravel she may have worn socks or something, but the reason she runs barefoot - shoes hurt her feet (after a foot surgery). Oddly, I've never had a foot surgery and shoes have always hurt my feet!

General Route
  • 2012 November 9 Friday – Rancho Cucamunga CA to Upland CA (9 miles paved bike path)
  • 2012 November 10 Saturday – Upland CA to West Covina CA (14 miles sidewalks)
  • 2012 November 11 Sunday – West Covina CA to Montebello CA (13 miles sidewalks and paved bike path)
  • 2012 November 12 Monday – Montebello CA to South Gate CA (10 miles paved bike path)
  • 2012 November 12 Monday 11;50 AM – 5K Race (FREE entry, oranges, bananas, water, no T-shirts) Boeing plant, Seal Beach CA
  • 2012 November 13 Tuesday – Montebello CA to South Gate CA (paved bike path and sidewalks)
  • 2012 November 14 Wednesday – Gardena CA to Manhattan Beach CA (sidewalks, concrete and tiled)
Contact Barefoot Ken Bob Saxton if you want to run or bicycle with, provide transportation to or from or between start and finish locations, volunteer at an aid station, etc.

Very true. But I'm wondering if there is a word that can describe what she has accomplished. Considering, according to what Ken Bob told me, "...Rae Running across America is a HUGE deal for barefoot runners. She has ran most of the way barefoot, she will be the youngest person ever (not just barefoot) to run across America. She may be the first person to run barefoot across America. And she's also a female running solo! Pretty cool....its nice to know how awesome people are and help whenever possible!

I plan to interview her or ask someone here to interview her once she has finished.

I'll buy her book, for sure! I am absolutely in love with this girl, seriously :barefoot:

I assume one of them will be called Bourbonfeet

I would hope so. And Jason and Shelley. Maybe Krista. Barefoot Todd, of course. I wonder if Christopher McDougall and Barefoot Ted will be there? I wish I could be there.

C'mon you guys! Ken Bob really would like some Californians or people who can make it to line her route and offer her cheers, support, and a running companion, so if you can get out there, please do it. And take lots of pictures too!

I think there should be a book in there with all the highs and lows of the run. I read both of the Barefoot Sisters books and they took me into a world out of the everyday politics crap and crisis that seems to be plaguing the world these days. Just the simplicity of using your feet to get around in the way every other animal does.
Just seeing that big pile of old running shoes in the photo, what a waste of resources. The stupidity of it, throw 'em away after 800km or so to keep the wheels of industry turning.
