I was having a discussion the other day and was wondering if any studies have been done on what is more calorie efficient - running or walking? Burning x calories per distance of mile traveled. I'd imagine this study would be hard to accomplish because of the many different gaits, intensity in both running and walking. Anyone come across any studies done in this area?

(Oops didn't see the studies sub-forum - please move there if possible)

I would think that running would burn more calories that walking.

I would also think that running in shoes would burn more calories than running barefoot, due to the extra effort needed to swing the shoes at your feet...

BTW, Sid is our unofficial Librarian. ;)
