Barefoot Hiking around East-Central Missouri

I live in the St. Louis, Missouri area and I am having a horrible time finding trails that are not filled with sharp rocks for major portions of the trail. Is this normal just about everywhere or are there barefoot " friendly" trails available around the country? I realize that tolerances can be built up, but the trails around St. Louis, Missouri are absolutely brutal.
