    Surly Trail Loppet 2014

Surly Trail Loppet 2014 By TD Moose The weather at race time was beautiful. The temperature was in the high 60's and mostly...

    Keeping feet tough over winter

I use a treadmill during the winter. Since it is mine, I don't have any problem with using it barefoot, however, I think it is a problem in many (most?) fitness centers. I still lose a lot of thickness in the soles of my feet, even running regularly on a treadmill. Tough soles are only part of...

Penalized for running barefoot on the beach!

You would have to know the specific rules for that triathlon. It's possible that it was spelled out, in which case, the penalty is justified. If not though, then, perhaps an official over-stepped their authority. The event website claims it is a USAT sanctioned event. The rules posted at the...

Ready yet to run a half-marathon barefoot?

It sounds like you may be ready. I don't really see the benefits of doing 15 mile runs prior to a half marathon. If you can consistently do 10Ks, and have a 10 mile under your belt, I'm thinking your best strategy may be to keep up with your current regimen, and avoid injury.

    Forgot My Shoes

Forgetting to bring shoes! Classic. A frequent occurrence for me. I ride my bike barefoot to a coffee shop near me. I put a pair of flip flops in my backpack. More than once, I've arrived and discovered that I forgot to pack the flip flops. So far, not a problem, but, I really do try to remember...

    The Zen of barefoot running

Welcome Julia. Great to see you here. 2:36 marathon? Gulp! That's faster than my half marathon time!

Skinners 'Sock Shoes' Aim To Become Essential Gym Footwear

Awesome. This is something close to what I've wished for to wear at the start of some races. I can tolerate cold temps when I run, but, most races have those moments between when they stop taking gear bags and the start of the race. I've considered a cheap pair of socks, but, have wondered how...

How long does it take for your skin to harden up?

I'm just gonna come out and say it (others have hinted at it). Dan, it sounds like you are heading for injury. If your focus is on how quickly you can ramp up the mileage, that really worries me. I realize, I'm on the slow end of things compared to others here. It took me close to 3 years to...

BORN TO RUN Debate: Author vs. Podiatrist

To be fair, please check out the podiatrist's comment at 5:50 into the video. He talks about how he is beginning to change his mind about barefoot running--about how he has gone from thinking it was crazy and wrong, to giving it more serious consideration. The video seems more of a commercial...

    Cold Midwest weather

Ummm, I think we here in Minnesota understand wind chill. The chart posted takes wind chill into account. After nearly 20 years of barefoot running, including running in sub-freezing temperatures, snow, and through icy water, I understand the challenges of cold temps.

    Cold Midwest weather

I live in Minnesota as well. My tolerance level is the high 20s Farenheit. You won't get frostbite at these temps. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/winter/windchill-images/windchillchart3.pdf Your feet may get really cold in the first few minutes, but, (providing you have good circulation) they...

Here's how I became faster from 2 months of training than in the past 6 YEARS combined

It felt spammy to me. From the headline, it seemed the article would be about how to run faster. Instead, it offered little but an enticement to click through to another website, and ultimately to a video (after giving an email address). The video was well presented, but short on information...

Family of barefoot marathoner sues company over use of name -- Who didn't see this coming?

I think it is clearly an appropriation of Bikila's name. Whether it is an illegal appropriation is something the courts will have to figure out. I don't think the issue is defamation. Instead it is the ability to control the use of one's name, or, in this case, the ability of Abebe Bikila's...

    Barefoot Survey Participants Required

I started taking this survey, but found several problems with it and chose not to complete it. Are you a professional of the barefoot technique? I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean do I get paid for offering services regarding barefoot running? Would you suggest other runners to...

    Check out Myth #2

I agreed with most of what was written. I don't have any issues with what was said in the section relating to bare feet. The only issue I have is the stance of the entire article of casting this into the category of myth-busting. That's an editor's and/or headline writer's bias coming through.
