181km barefoot in 24 hours: Gait lesson #2

Amazing! Was the surface a typical running track surface - sort of springy, but can give you blisters if you're not careful?

    Three Creeks 10K

I would call that a successful run Tristan. That amount of damage (not much really) at that pace in 37 degrees is pretty good. I've actually had my feet go numb at 42 degrees outside, so I know what you mean when you say 37 is on the edge. Nice job! - Fred

Blood blister...... Drain or let go?

Depends on how big it is but I've found blood blisters harden up kind of nice. They work themselves off in a few weeks and function almost like a callous until then. But it's been a few years since I had a good one. (not bragging, I only used to get them when I tried to run fast, and now I...

    Race Report: Canton, OH marathon

Thanks for the kind comments everyone! Don't rush the marathon, you'll kind of know when you are ready. For me, 10 and 12 mile runs started being no big deal, and I wasn't getting blisters at all anymore, even running in the rain or in mid-80's heat. I run in Luna's a little less than half...

    Race Report: Canton, OH marathon

Hello BRS! Just a quick race report on a barefoot marathon (my first) I completed on Sunday, June 17th in Canton, Ohio. I will keep it brief, but feel free to comment or message me for more details if wanted. Some people on this site are amazing runners, and complete barefoot marathons 6...

    2011 in review; 2012 goals

OK - 2011 was a bust for posting; apparently I forgot there are other people out there who run barefoot. Sorry for the lack of networking savvy, I'm just lazy! 2011 PR's (all BF) - Longest run: 15 miles. Longest race: 13.1 miles. Highest mileage week: 42. Races (all BF) Tiger Trot 5K: 24:54...

    Mileage Report July Week 1

P.S. for those who follow this mileage log (why would you?), or much more likely, for me next year when I forget, I am following a fiscal calendar system for mileage reporting, so there will be a 4 week month, 4 week month, and 5 week month. Another great PR week once again! 42 miles barefoot...

    Mileage Report June Week 5

Low mileage week - did 7 miles barefoot altogether. One 4 mile run, and one 5K race. Race was a great time - Orrville Firecracker 5K in the rain! Love running in the rain - bf'ers who don't are really screwing themselves. Great time with 22:00 minutes flat. Had lots of energy, and passed loads...

    Mileage Report June Week 4

A big one!! 34 BF miles altogether. Runs of 7,7,7 and 13 miles. Woo hoo! PR for weekly distance (previous record was 28); PR for single run (13 miles). No injuries from 13 miler, but feet were definitely tender. Looked like I might get a couple tiny blisters, but they disappeared throughout the...

    Mileage Report June Week 3

Crappy mileage week; had family visiting and various issues so just 4 miles BF. Waah! Took my rest week, as per Ken Bob's book suggestion. 4 miles, that is all!

    Mileage Report June Week 2

Another great week - the race last week through this one off - was supposed to be a 4-day running week, but turned into a 3 day. Did 23 miles BF altogether - runs of 7.6, 7.6, and 7.6. Mixed in Luna's for another 12 miles, (but they don't count!)

Article: Barefoot Running: Strength before Stride By Erin Marston of Free Thy Feet

I'm with stomper on this one - here's the advice I give, 3 years into bfr You will definitely not get anywhere doing toe curls for 3 months Start running barefoot very, very slowly, maybe 20 steps out and 20 back. Add another 20 steps every couple days. Start now, don't worry about what time...

Comment by 'fredvp71' in 'Mileage Report May Week 4'

Man, one more thing to worry about. Oh well, they won't infect a barefoot runner with smooth, tough soles. Right?

    Mileage Report June Week 1

Another good week, everything is clicking this month! Ran 8, 8, and 3 for 19 miles. The 3 was a 5K, the Massillon Eagles 190 whatever. It was a good road race, and a nice morning for a run. Quite warm, maybe even 75 degrees or more. I ran it barefoot, obviously, and finished in 23:19. A...

Article: Barefoot vs. minimal "naturalistic" running: the blurbs show the difference

This year I am running all bare races. I am averaging 13% slower barefoot than in vibrams, which makes quite a difference. Times dropping from 20:30 to 23:10 in 5K's. But.... I've gained a lot of weight since last year, as I switched to only barefoot mileage, which over the winter was...
