    10-20-13 My first marathon!

You could try dateorade since the dates work for you, especially in colder weather. Not sure how well it will keep in warmer temps, same with grape juice.

    10-20-13 My first marathon!

Awesome results! Glad to hear the dates worked for you. Love to keep it natural.

    Natural / Unnatural

Barefoot running is natural. Just kick of the shoes and start running after not having done so and you are asking for trouble. The same with sun exposure. Expose yourself too much with out building your mileage and you are in trouble. With either, gradually work up to it and you will be...

    Race day preparedness

2 medjools would be about 1 gu. It is more calories but with the fiber it will not absorb like a gu. I take 8 for a marathon, 2 ea. at ~10, 15 and 20 miles. The last 2 are probably of no help fuel wise but I take them if I feel hunger in the last 10k to remove the distraction. I am running a...

    Race day preparedness

I take the dates with me on any run over 2 hours. I get the medjool variety, they are big and gooey, and remove the pit and put them in a zip lock to take with me. Usually a few bananas or grapes before a long run and sometimes dates also before. Grapes sounds good for during a run, water and...

    Race day preparedness

I'm prepared with proper fitting feet and dates, nature's gu, for fuel. "your shoe is controlling the foot" ??? It is funny, assuming that hypothetically you would be wearing shoes, that they would wait until one week before the race to talk about it. That sounds like blisters waiting to happen

    My first barefoot full marathon.

Good job! 40 is borderline for me depending on other factors. I have done shorter races at that temp and my feet warm up after a mile or so but not sure if they would at marathon pace. I am not sure about the fueling, but I have always heard that you can go 2 hours without fuel so I never...

    My first barefoot full marathon.

When I ran my first, the longest BF run prior to that was half marathon distance. You are way ahead on BF mileage. After a certain point your feet can go any distance the rest of your body can. You will rock it.

Barefoot Not Best For Most Runners??...

I am only concerned with what is best for one runner.

    Q on breathing technique

Get as much O2 as possible, remove as much CO2 as possible. Anything else is over-thinking it.

So what do you all think of this?

When I get injured running barefoot, I blame mother nature. Oh, wait a minute, I have yet to get injured running barefoot. Everything always seems to be someone else's responsibility.

    Barefoot strategy for restrooms

My issues are usually with the other end, don't think I should try the sink.

    Pre-race meals

I eat real food, at least 2 bananas before anything from a 5K to a half. Sometimes a huge bowl of grapes. For a marathon or long training runs I up the pre run dose and eat dates during the run. I am 5'9" 155lb., I am sure it may scale either way depending on size. I could never imagine why...

    How fast things change

What I like best about the biks is that they last forever. I would not expect that from an evo soled shoe.

Run Tracking - Garmin Vs Apps

It stores latitude and longitude points and creates the map from these with google or bing.

Protein Shakes - Yes or No?

I wake up feeling fine the day after any workout, 20 miler(usually followed by a 6 miler the next day at normal pace), 9 miler with 5 mile speed work(speed is relative), race day effort, it doesn't matter. Real food works for me, no need for anything processed. But for me, real food is a...

    side effects (moods)

Yes, that is the opposite of what most people experience. What is the intensity of your runs? Are you re-hydrating after? I would look at diet and other lifestyle factors.

blisters, porta-potties, and heat strokes: And then there's the Other runs....

I used to take my bicycle to work, leave my car and ride home, then back to work the following morning. I work at home now. I won't get into the paperless porta-potty improvisations.
