Had an interesting conversation about BF running

Was out of town for the weekend, and decided to go to the local Snap Fitness to run on the treadmill, never been in this gym before. Was in there running away in my bare feet, got a few stares. There was an older gentleman running a few machines down from me. After he was done he came over to...

Felt like I hit my limit last night.

Went to do a run last evening. 31 deg. F. 15-20 mph NW winds, right at sunset. Put on my Underarmor cold gear tights, my Zensah calf sleeves (for warmth, not support) my running shorts, merino wool base layer, long sleeve BRS shirt, fleece vest, stocking hat, and took off. Chip seal just hurts...

    My first cold run.

Went for a run yesterday afternoon in what I would consider the first really cool day of the fall here in MN. Air temp was 42 F., but the wind chill was 35 F. Cold feet flying over the chip seal street (notice the curved up toes :) ) Here is a bit of the scenery where I live. If I go...

    A solid 3 months into my transition....musings

So like the title said I'm 3 months into my transition from shoes and injuries to barefooting. So far so good, I love it! I'm up to 4 mile runs now, with a 2 day on, 1 day off schedule of running. All running miles have been stricly barefoot. My achilles no longer hurt when I run. I read Ken...

Funny drunk conversations about my barefoot running

So Sat. afternoon I did a 4 miler barefoot (my longest so far btw!) I went out of town 2 miles and came back. The harvest is going on so there were a large number of farmers trucking grain into town. I happen to know most of them. That night there was a big open house I went to. The alcohol...

    Feel for you military people

I find this whole topic very interesting. I was in the Army Infantry from 93-97'. I couldn't see even trying to make the transition to minimal shoe running during that time. I'm not so sure about the Air Force or Navy, but I would have wrecked myself if I tried to transition. You show up for PT...

    EWW Gross!!

So I was walking barefoot to the convience store last evening to get some milk and stuff. I was conciously trying to not look down at my feet and just look ahead. I stepped down and felt something funny, I looked down and saw I stepped on a.............. squished dead frog . Nice! Needless to...

Best and worst runs in a 3 day time span

Sunday went out and did a 3 miler. 1.25 miles of it was on gravel. Felt real good, finished strong, form felt good. Probably my best run of this whole transition. Feet were tender the next day though. Tuesday went out to do another 3 miler, legs were tired, (probably from biking on Mon.) heel...

    My new treadmill strategy

So I'm up to 3 miles now! I had a 3 miler on my schedule tonight, but we were having 40 mph winds gusting up to 50. I really didn't feel like fighting the wind. So I decided to go to the gym (Snap Fitness) and run on the treadmill. Now I was worried about the heat buildup, but then I...

    Gravel is now my b!&ch

Finally took the plunge. Did a 2.5 mile run last night, half of it was on a gravel road. Ken Bob was right, it will ensure your form is perfect. It wasn't too bad, A slight burning on the balls of my feet, but not once did I step on a rock that really hurt. I did slow down to about a 10...

    I finally did it!

I have been following Jason Robillard's beginners program and finally made it up to and finished the 1.5 mile run! Beautiful 54 degree windy sunny afternoon, chip seal pavement the whole way, 14 minute time, one blood blister on my big toe (no big deal) That's the furthest I've run since...

    Calf compression sleeves

I've seen a number of pictures with barefoot and mininalist runners wearing the calf compression sleeves. If you do, do you think they help, and do you like them?
