Vibrams BANNED from free weights room

My school's gym has a policy that in the free weights section, there needs to be close-toed athletic footwear worn at all times. But Vibram FiveFingers do not satisfy this requirement because they somehow offer less protection against dropped weights... Um, last time I checked, if you dropped a...

How to become an awesome barefoot runner in less than 12 months

Gravel bucket marching just Gravel bucket marching just sounds painful. I don't see the rush in becoming an "awesome" barefoot runner. I just like the feeling of being barefoot. Don't know how awesome I am at running, because I will always be on the slower end, but I sure as hell enjoy it.

Ok cool. Have a link to the Ok cool. Have a link to the Rockville site? AND, I'm going to keep a lookout for you. I will be wearing my VFFs and dying on the hills. First the east coast humidity has been killing me and I don't do that many hill runs (whoops). But I'll crawl if I have to!

    The importance of foot massages

Golf balls for the win. Who Golf balls for the win. Who knew Tiger Woods' lame sport would come in handy some day? Not a golf fan. Too boring. But at least golf balls are good for something :)

Oh man. ARE YOU ANYWHERE Oh man. ARE YOU ANYWHERE NEAR DC? Want to give me a ride to the Annapolis 10-miler? My buddy decided not to run (and tell me NOW) and I don't have a car in DC, so I'm trying to figure out how to get myself there. Help a barefooter out? I guess I could always walk...

Some (or most) of you don't know that I write a health/weight loss/food/exercise blog called www.halfofjess.com Anyway, I was asked by a good friend of mine, a shod runner, to write a guest post about my experience in Vibram FiveFingers, which turned into more of a barefoot running post. Check...

Input on my half marathon training schedule?

Hm, personally I like to Hm, personally I like to relax the week I have a big schbang coming up (like every standardized test I ever took, every evil interview I had) but that's just me. I don't like running week of races because mentally, it makes me feel tired. It's not so much a physical...

Input on my half marathon training schedule?

I normally did the short Day I normally did the short Day 3 recovery run on Day 5. After my first 10-miler, I was tired but not dead. And the next day I did a mild jog for a mile and then stretched. If you have access to a pool, I can't tell you how amazing swimming is for cross-training. It's...

Man, that's some dedicated Man, that's some dedicated training. Make sure you don't beat yourself up over missed days and definitely take rest days when you need them. Get strength training in. You are only as strong as your weakest link. I can't stress the importance of deadlifting and lunges...

Forget Sarcasm, What's the DUMBEST Comment You've Heard

My argument for why it's not My argument for why it's not "dumb" is what if they just didn't know any better? It's like when they thought the world was flat instead of round. That's stupid NOW but back then, that's all they knew. I never contemplated barefoot running until I started my blog...

    Walking BF

Interesting...very Interesting...very interesting. For me, it depends on the surface and the incline. Don't know. Never really think about walking. I just do what I've always done. On flat concrete, it's heel to toe normally, but definitely varies with terrain.

Tell me how to improve my form

Running on the treadmill is Running on the treadmill is also a bit different than running outside/road. I have no idea how to judge form, nor do I even know if I have "proper" running form. Don't overthink it and go out there for the love of running. Your body will naturally know what to do...

Interesting run in the park today!

Barefoot TJ wrote:Some of That's what I look at it as. I get calluses when I strength train, sometimes worse than others, but it doesn't mean I have bad form. Incessant pain (not good sore pain) and injuries are a better indicator of bad form. Besides, I feel like if you do enough...

Nike and the U.S Military speak out

As much as I love my Vibrams, As much as I love my Vibrams, I do think they need to be stressed as a "supplement" to barefoot running, not a "substitution" for shoes. I think that's what a lot of people think of them as, and it's hard to convince them otherwise. Something about running...

I guess I don't look at any I guess I don't look at any comment as dumb because I just assume people don't know better. And if we shun them, for their ignorance, then Nike wins. I like talking about it, esp. when people want to hear more than "Yes" to the "do you like running barefoot/in...
