Funny foot thing going on

Hopefully not the dreaded stress fracture, but I've been having some unusual pains in my left foot.

On waking, I'll put my foot down (left) and get a pain shoot through the 1st/2nd metatarsal area (1st being big toe). Walk around for about a minute or so and the pain is gone.

Sit for a while and the same thing happens.

No pain to speak of during activity.

I did have some self-daignosed tendonitis in that area a while ago, could this be a repeat of that, or a stress fracture?

I believe, in general, pain that is present upon start of an activity and then feels better over time generally points to a soft tissue (i.e. tendonitis) type of scenario. Conversely, I think stress fractures tend to be the opposite: Feel ok upon start of an activity but pain increases as the activity goes on.

Yeah, that's kimd of what I was thinking too

Except in the case of nerve pain, which can come on after a time (short or long) beginning the activity. Just thought I'd muddy the waters a little bit.
